Kids’ lunchbox snacks can be a daily battle, but these three make life a whole lot easier. They’re tasty, fuss-friendly and they each have the tick of approval from Aussie mums.

When you’re choosing snacks for kids, it’s not just about what they’ll eat (though that’s obviously a huge deal), it’s also about convenience, nutrition and how well it travels. A great lunchbox snack needs to be robust enough to survive until recess or lunch, but still nourishing so that little bodies are getting the goodness they need.

At the same time, we know parents don’t want to spend forever hunting down niche “healthy” snacks. That’s why these three from our Mouths of Mums reviews are such winners. (You might even find yourself snacking on them!)

Babybel Mini Rolls

Swirly, twirly, nutritious and YUM!

They’re everyone’s favourite Babybel cheese, reinvented in fun spirals and packaged up in their favourite Disney/Pixar characters.

Our Babybel Mini Rolls review team loves that they’re a simple, calcium-rich snack with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, and they’re vegetarian-friendly.

They appeal to all ages and deliver a great familiar taste and loads of sensory fun.

What mums are saying:

Where to buy: Find Babybel Mini Rolls in Coles and other supermarkets nationwide.

Healtheries Potato Stix

Healtheries Potato Stix Review product in cup on table
Chips, you've been replaced!

These stick-shaped snacks look a bit like fries, but don’t be fooled – they are baked, not fried, which means they contain about 50% less fat than the typical chips popped into lunchboxes.

They come in natural-flavoured varieties (such as chicken or roast potato), and each single-serve pack has its own little tray – perfect for mess-free snacking, especially when on the go.

The Healtheries Potato Stix review team adore how crunchy these are, and appreciate the healthier twist on a classic salty snack.

What mums are saying:

"The Healtheries Potato stix were great. My son loved them and it’s good to know that they are healthily baked and not fried. So crunchy, they curb the appetite for more unhealthy chips and they have a great taste. Good portion size, would definitely buy again and recommend to others."

"These are delicious! They are such an easy snack for me to give my little one on the go and the price point is brilliant. We are very happy we found these and they are now a staple on our shopping list most weeks."

"My kids loved the Healtheries Potato Stix and enjoyed it everywhere we went on the go as an in between meals snack. They are great size for sharing and even stacking for play, delicious, crispy and flavoursome, the chicken flavour was a hit! Loved that my kids were eating healthy and delicious treats without the sugar overload guilt."

Where to buy: You can find Healtheries Potato Stix in the health food aisles of WoolworthsColes and larger independent stores.

The Laughing Cow Cheese Triangles

The Laughing Cow on crackers with strawberries
Pop them in lunchboxes whole, or spread them on crackers for an afternoon snack

These individually wrapped wedges are creamy, mildly flavoured and super versatile.

According to The Laughing Cow review team, they’re a hit across the board, with kids (and big kids!) scooping them on crackers, spreading them on toast, or just peeling and eating straight from the foil.

They’re a great source of calcium, and because each triangle comes in its own foil, they’re mess-free and perfect for tossing into lunchboxes or snack bags.

What mums are saying:

"A delicious creamy cheese perfect as a snack or used as a spread. Kids loved them in their lunch boxes. We also enjoyed them on crackers and made little sandwich sushi with ham, cucumber and carrot."

"Perfect for school snack box, as a treat or to munch when hungry on its own or as topping on crackers or fruits. Easy to carry when travelling as individually wrapped and easy to eat on a go. Our family favourite ..."

"My kindy boy has been taking a triangle every day with crackers, carrots, pasta and loving it! They are so creamy, delicious, mildly flavoured yet so nutritious. It’s a win for our family, very convenient to carry in snack boxes too."

Where to buy: Find The Laughing Cow at WoolworthsColes and IGA.

  • There are a lot of great ideas for easy snack foods these days that are healthy as well. I always like to keep an eye out for what is on special in the catalogues each week as sometimes there will be items from the health food section. Vegie chips and the like are great ideas and kids still think they are having a treat.

  • The potato sticks look tasty but I wonder if the school my girls went to would be ok with them.
My kids are now grown but when they went to school it was super strick and they were not allowed anything that even looked like a treat.
    No museli bars or muffins.

  • I absolutely love buying snacks and adding them to lunchboxes. I am a huge fan of dairy products and in particular cheese. I have always been a huge fan of original Babybel cheese because it is simply so delicious to eat. I also like crackers in packets and lots of savoury snacks.

  • My kids loved the babybel mini rolls! They’ve also enjoyed the laughing cow cheeses. The potato sticks I’ve seen at the shops but we haven’t tried them yet! Will have to add that to the list. I love that they are nutritious healthy options and not sugary snacks which there are already too many of

  • We really do love to eat a lot of cheese in this dairy loving household. Laughing Cow cheese is a particular favourite cheese to buy and eat. We love the smooth texture of this cheese and also love the flavour too. It is a cheese that is so easy to pack in lunch boxes.

  • It is always good to have some new lunchbox suggestions for healthy snacks. Thank you for the ideas. Laughing Cow cheese singles are a favourite here, nice and healthy too. The potato stix look like a fun lunchbox treat. I’ll have to look out for these. Thanks again for the helpful ideas.

  • Since I last wrote a comment on this article I have found these at my local coles, they were hidden right at the back of the fridge. My daughter who is a very fussy eater was so keen to try these and I can’t wait for her to give them a try. I even want to eat them for a snack.

  • I’m curious to try the potato stix myself. They look so tempting. 🙂

  • I really love the taste of babybell cheese rolls, but there is a massive problem for me – their price is little bit insane. 7-8$ for a pack of 5, I reckon it is crazy as they are so tiny. Definitely overpriced, but the taste is unbelievably great! My little one loved it, but I don’t buy it because it’s expensive.

  • I have to get my kids to try the new Babybel cheeses. I didn’t like it as a kid but they love cheese. The laughing cow cheese is fantastic for making creamy dips and just as a snack. I eat them more than the kids lol. I like cheese as a snack, good fat and protein.

  • The laughing cow cheese is a great option because it can be eaten as is or used as a spread on bread or some crackers. It’s a favourite in our house. The babybel string cheese was also a hit, the kids liked making shapes with them before actually eating it. Packaging was very cute also.

  • My only real reservation about this kind of snack is the amount of packaging – very wasteful. I tend to buy bigger packets and decant them into reusable snack containers. But then, I have three kids so things don’t really have a chance to go off. The options here look pretty healthy.

  • Oh wow! I’ve never had anything like these growing up. The roll up baby bells look so fun and something my kids could absolutely love and enjoy. But im always so worried about including chilled food items in my kids lunchboxes, especially on the warmer days. Definitely a great snack though!

  • I used to pack those Laughing Cow cheeses in my own lunch box as they are always filling and tasty with crackers. The Potato Stix are already a hit in our house, safe for the one with allergies who loves the chicken flavour. The Baybel Min Rolls are not something I have tried as yet.

  • Personally I was never a fan of babybel cheese, the taste is me too bland and I prefer a stronger cheese like extra tasty or even older and blue cheese. Same counts for the laughing cow, personally I think it’s too bland and I don’t like the texture. But my kids, always lobed babybel and laughing cow.
The Healtheries Potato Stix has never been a favourite at ours.

  • I trialled and reviewed the Babybel Mini Rolls recently. Although my kids are older, they absolutely loved the Mini Rolls. I tried one too and it was so creamy and smooth with the great Babybel taste that Babybel is renowned for. They would definitely appeal to younger kids given the cute character packaging. Recommended.

  • I was lucky enough to trial both the babybel mini rolls and the Laughing Cow cheese. They are great on their own, but also fun to use in cooking or other creations. Good for school lunches or some bit more fancy.
I’ll have to look out for the Healtheries Potato Stix. I think my family would enjoy them too.

  • I have not been able to find these in any of the supermarkets I go to in WA. I am so keen to try these and have my child try these but i just can’t find them anywhere. They either sell out super fast or we don’t have them available in WA.

  • I’ve added to my shopping list! I’m always looking for new things for myself and the children for lunches and easy snacks. Who doesn’t love cheese.

  • These new Babybel Mini Rolls must be super popular, I haven’t been able to find them at my local grocery stores lately! The cheese wedges were great when my toddler was teething and didn’t want to eat much.
These days I make a lot of our snack and lunchbox fillers myself. I make carrot, apple and currant muffins weekly, and a fruit, seed and oat chewy muesli bar every fortnight. I also stopped buying individual yoghurt cups and make parfaits in containers.
