Australian Olympian Libby Trickett has welcomed her fifth bundle of joy, saying she’s almost certain this is her last baby.

The 40-year-old retired professional swimmer and her husband Luke Trickett are celebrating the arrival of Archie Wilson Lightning Trickett, who was born by elective c-section.

While the busy mum says the ‘shape’ of their family is complete, she hasn’t ruled out more little ones! Libby and Luke are already parents to Poppy, 9, Edwina, 7, Bronte, 5, and Alfred, 1 – and she’s previously mentioned she was finished having children.

“Definitely promise it’s for reals this time! I’m really *almost* certain this time.. though I’ve come to realise that I probably would have babies forever, I know that I’ve pushed my body to its absolute limits with this one.”

She revealed her fifth birth was a beautiful experience.

“Every birth I’ve had has been extraordinary and this one was no different. Calm, full of joy and laughter, I couldn’t have asked for a better way to meet our baby boy.”

Libby also explained that her mother’s instinct when it came to the sex of all of her children was way off.

“We didn’t find out the sex of the baby for any of our pregnancies, and I literally guessed the gender of every single one of my children, wrong. I didn’t predict a single one and I feel so lucky because I couldn’t have wished for more.”

The former athlete announced her pregnancy in November last year, saying she was ‘terrified’ of having a fifth child.

“Luke and I are absolutely thrilled (and ever so slightly terrified) to announce that we will be welcoming Baby Trickett 5.0 into the world in April!!” she shared in an Instagram post.

“Poppy is already excited for another baby, Eddie thinks it will be a little boy and Bronte thinks it will be a little girl and Alfie keeps pointing to my tummy and saying “baby” but really has no idea what’s he’s in for.”

But, this isn’t the first time Libby has promised it would be her last baby. After giving birth to her fourth baby in 2023, Libby said they had the ‘final little piece to our family puzzle (for reals this time! ????)’!

After giving birth to Alfred, or Alfie, last year, Libby shared a gorgeous, smiley snap of her son at hospital, just moments after his birth, saying, “Alfred Sunny Trickett arrived at 9.09am on the 17th of May via an elective caesarean birth, weighing 3.5kg and 52cm long.

“Every birth I’ve had has been extraordinary and this one was no different. Calm, full of joy and laughter, I couldn’t have asked for a better way to meet our baby boy. Alfie has no idea what he’s in for with his 3 big sisters and the girls are absolutely smitten.”

Libby revealed in December 2022 that she was expecting her fourth baby, admitting to being ‘thrilled’, but a little scared!

“Luke and I are absolutely thrilled (and ever so slightly terrified) to announce that we will be welcoming Baby Trickett 4.0 into the world in May!” Libby wrote on an Instagram post.

“Poppy is not sure she’s ready for another baby, Eddie thinks it will be a little girl and Bronte is excited to be a big sister but really has no idea what’s she’s in for.”

Libby also added some honest hashtags to her post, which included an ultrasound of their bundle of joy, including: #wemustbeslightlybonkersorsuckersforpunishment

  • It is lovely to see her enjoying motherhood so much. Of course it’s not always easy, I’m sure she has her moments, but lots of these photos look very natural and happy. It’s lovely to see.

  • Okay, so the name was looking great until the second middle name – what is with ‘lightning’? That’s just weird! Oh well, at least no one needs to know his extra name if he doesn’t want them to! I think Libby would be such a fun mum and she’s definitely a super star raising so many beautiful little kiddies and still keeping her sanity!

  • Aw congrats to her and the family! I can totally relate and understand what she means when she says shes almost certain it’s her last. I said the same thing with my first – then watching her alone made me want another one. Ive said im absolutely done but after a few years seeing their baby years slip away, it’s that missing feeling!

  • Congratulations to her! I understand where she’s coming from, if my body would have stood up to it I’d have had lots more babies. Since it didn’t, I didn’t have to deal with realities like budget, space, time, etc! But I wish her much joy oft he new arrival and all her kids.

  • This is such wonderful news! I’m so happy to hear the baby has arrived safely and she now has another bundle of joy to love and cherish. She truly is a super mum managing to care for 4 kids. I wish the entire family all the happiness in the coming weeks as they introduce the baby to the family, bond, and adjust to life with 4 kids

  • Congratulations–how marvellous for Libby’s family. Everyone must be so proud of her Olympic success but being a mum once over, let alone five times, is harder. Wishing Libby and Matt all the best for the delivery and the wonderful life events to follow with fab Christmases and a relay team with a spare.

  • Hello again. Libby. I wrote with baby 4, and felt you were so lucky to have had a boy after 3 girls, though I never said it. I am not surprised that baby 5 is coming along – great if it is a boy so the girls cannot gang up on your Alfie. I had two of each, and doctors said I had to stop, so I was lucky. But if you don’t have huge problems in pregnancy and you are still so young, why not go for no 5. Hope you have an easy pregnancy and birth and everything will work out for you.

  • How wonderful and what a beautiful family she has created.
He was born just a couple of days before my own birthday. I wonder if he gets his full name or if it is now shortened to Al or Fred. I knew an Alfred and his name was shortened to Albie.

  • Talk about a super mum! To have such a big family after a successful career as a professional athlete is amazing and she still looks super fit too! Proof that it can be done! 5 is a pretty big amount of children though, I bet they keep her busy. A gorgeous family!

  • Love this news. Libby you are one super mum and Luke a super dad, congratulations on the news of your fifth child to come. What a happy growing family. I love the photos of them, they are just keeping it real and always looking happy just having fun. Wishing them all the best.

    • These photos are definitely keeping it real and I suspect quite relatable for many in the community. I always prefer down to earth and natural photos of posed celebrity photos. It is so nice for every family to have down to earth photos and to keep and cherish and look at and talk about years down the track.

  • I really do love these down to earth and relatable family photos; it really is so refreshing to see non posed and fun family photos by someone with a community profile. Libby Trickett appears to have such a wonderful energy and enthusiasm and it such good news for this growing family.

  • Congratulations! If you have the physical, emotional and financial resources, I see no issue with a big family. I would have had more kids if I could have.
