Australian Olympian Libby Trickett admits she’s ‘slightly terrified’ after revealing she’s expecting her fifth baby.

The 39-year-old retired professional swimmer says she and her husband Luke Trickett, 41, promise that this is ‘absolutely it’ and that their family will be complete after they welcome baby number five.

“Luke and I are absolutely thrilled (and ever so slightly terrified) to announce that we will be welcoming Baby Trickett 5.0 into the world in April!!” she shared in an Instagram post.

“Poppy is already excited for another baby, Eddie thinks it will be a little boy and Bronte thinks it will be a little girl and Alfie keeps pointing to my tummy and saying “baby” but really has no idea what’s he’s in for.”

But, this isn’t the first time Libby has promised it would be her last baby. After giving birth to her fourth baby last year, Libby said they had the ‘final little piece to our family puzzle (for reals this time! ????)’!

Libby and Luke are already parents to Poppy, 9, Edwina, 6, Bronte, 5, and Alfred, 1 – and she’s previously mentioned she was finished having children.

After giving birth to Alfred, or Alfie, last year, Libby shared a gorgeous, smiley snap of her son at hospital, just moments after his birth, saying, “Alfred Sunny Trickett arrived at 9.09am on the 17th of May via an elective caesarean birth, weighing 3.5kg and 52cm long.

“Every birth I’ve had has been extraordinary and this one was no different. Calm, full of joy and laughter, I couldn’t have asked for a better way to meet our baby boy. Alfie has no idea what he’s in for with his 3 big sisters and the girls are absolutely smitten.”

Libby revealed in December 2022 that she was expecting her fourth baby, admitting to being ‘thrilled’, but a little scared!

“Luke and I are absolutely thrilled (and ever so slightly terrified) to announce that we will be welcoming Baby Trickett 4.0 into the world in May!” Libby wrote on an Instagram post.

Libby, who was a gold medallist at the 2004 , 2008 and 212 Summer Olympics, has previously revealed she suffered with post-natal depression after Poppy’s birth in 2015.

  • Hello again. Libby. I wrote with baby 4, and felt you were so lucky to have had a boy after 3 girls, though I never said it. I am not surprised that baby 5 is coming along – great if it is a boy so the girls cannot gang up on your Alfie. I had two of each, and doctors said I had to stop, so I was lucky. But if you don’t have huge problems in pregnancy and you are still so young, why not go for no 5. Hope you have an easy pregnancy and birth and everything will work out for you.

  • How wonderful and what a beautiful family she has created.
He was born just a couple of days before my own birthday. I wonder if he gets his full name or if it is now shortened to Al or Fred. I knew an Alfred and his name was shortened to Albie.

  • Talk about a super mum! To have such a big family after a successful career as a professional athlete is amazing and she still looks super fit too! Proof that it can be done! 5 is a pretty big amount of children though, I bet they keep her busy. A gorgeous family!

  • Love this news. Libby you are one super mum and Luke a super dad, congratulations on the news of your fifth child to come. What a happy growing family. I love the photos of them, they are just keeping it real and always looking happy just having fun. Wishing them all the best.

    • These photos are definitely keeping it real and I suspect quite relatable for many in the community. I always prefer down to earth and natural photos of posed celebrity photos. It is so nice for every family to have down to earth photos and to keep and cherish and look at and talk about years down the track.

  • Congratulations! If you have the physical, emotional and financial resources, I see no issue with a big family. I would have had more kids if I could have.

  • I don’t think I know this lady but I wish her all the very best for her fifth child. She will have her hands full with 5 kids to look after. They look like a really lovely loving family and I am sure the kids all help look after each other.

  • I can’t recall I have heard of her before, but exciting times ! Coming myself from a family with five kids I can tell you it’s lovely. It may be handsful to begin with, but in time it will get easier and give so much joy. Hope that the course of the pregnancy and the birth will all go well !

  • So happy for them ! It’s so great to see elective c sections be normalised to as I may have to have one after an emergency c for my first and am starting to wrap my head around the thought more and more

  • Congratulations, Libby. If anyone can do this, you can. And 4 kids isn’t too much to handle. They will keep on pairing off and you will find it’s easier than three as no one gets left out with 4. That was my experience anyway. Hope you enjoy your full life. Cheers
