Hello!

An expecting mum is being accused of ‘ruining the family’ because of the baby names she and her husband have chosen for their twins.

The 34-year-old mum-to-be is 32 weeks pregnant with twins: a boy and a girl. She and her 35-year-old husband recently settled on names that they ‘love’.

“Evander for our son, which is a combined name to honour my late father, Alexander, and Sam’s late brother, Everette. We chose Evangeline for our daughter,” she explained.

“Evangeline has always been a name I have dreamed of naming our daughter since I was a little girl, it is also the name of Sam’s paternal grandmother. Sam and I decided that our first daughter would have the name Evangeline years ago because of how special it is for both of us.”

But the expecting mum’s mother-in-law, Pam, isn’t happy.

“She thinks that it’s a personal attack on her and her husband (my FIL). They had drama with Sam’s grandparents two decades ago that I have never been made aware of and Sam doesn’t know much about it.

“Pam had a tantrum after Sam and I told her that we were not changing the name. She’s refusing to talk to us and is telling people that we are doing this intentionally to hurt her, which is not true.

“My sister-in-law called me today begging me to change the name and called me an a**hole after I said no. She has gone on social media and is making posts that I am ruining her family.

“My father-in-law doesn’t care and has asked for permission to call her Evie, to which Sam and I agreed to.

“Am I the a**hole for choosing a name that makes my MIL unhappy?”

  • It’s the parents’ choice. No one else gets to decide.

  • All you needed to say was “in laws”…

  • Um, they are your children so you get to decide what to call them. The MIL is an ADULT, and probably should’ve had a rational discussion about the past if it was such an issue. She should also realise, it is not up to her to dictate what her grandchildren are called.

  • Wow what a family. Great names and a bonus that the family had helped you identify who you don’t want in the twins life!

  • Super cute names. Both long enough to shorten with a nickname. The grand-parents had their turn to pick names, now it’s their children’s turn.

  • This is a decision for the parents.

    Reply

  • It’s entirely the parents’ decision. Everyone else should go away and be quiet.

  • It should always be the parents decision on what to name their children. I think it’s everyone else who are being unreasonable.

  • Totally up to the parents to name their child, nobody else bussiness

  • I think it should be the parents choice and people should just keep their noses out of it.

  • Sad situation, but seriously the name is up to the parents and people just need to accept it and move on.

  • That’s a sad situation. I think Evie will grow on her in time. Good luck!

  • What petty people and adults. They all need to grow up, get healthier lives and leave this couple alone.

  • Why do they name the kids after dead people .Why not someone who is happy and alive.

  • I think the fact that SIL has gone on social media and is making posts that this mum is ruining her family is totally shocking !

  • I think it is up to the parents what they call their children.

It also amazes me that there was a feud that neither of the parents knew about, that is now being dragged up – too late, and too petty in my opinion.

  • Sounds extremely petty. You should name your children what you want, although they are very similar sounding names and it could get confusing.

  • They’re your children and you can name them what you like. The MIL needs to let go of the past or she risks ruining her future relationships as well.

  • Wow! This has become too much. Boundaries people!!! Nobody gets to tell you what you can name your children. This is just getting out of hand. Name your children what you like. It’s your decision, nobody elses.

  • How ridiculous, nothing wrong with those names. It’s actually cute they match a little.

    • It is rather cute and totally their decision.
