An old style smoothie using basic fruit that will see you through until lunch!

Ingredients (serves 2)

  • 1 banana
  • 4-6 strawberries (remove tops)
  • 1-2 cups milk (depending on how thick you want it)

Method

  1. Throw the banana and strawberries into a blender.
  2. Add the milk. Add honey or yogurt if you wish.
  3. Blend, serve and slurp.

Notes

Before the 'on the go' breakfast bars and primas there was the smoothie. Endlessly adaptable to use fruit you have on hand and great for kids who won't eat breakfast. You can use any type of milk (soy, rice, almond) and any types of fruit (strawberry, banana, mango, berries, pear). You can also add chia seeds if you wish.

  • A strawberry and banana smoothie is always so refreshing and good to drink because it simply tastes so good. I do love to make smoothies with good quality ice cream because it gives smoothies a creamy texture. I really do love to make and drink a smoothie for breakfast; a good start to the day.

  • I love to freeze bananas when they get over-ripe, and then chop one up & throw it in a smoothie. Half a blender of ice, a frozen banana, a drizzle of honey, any other fruit I have on hand, and some skim milk and we have two large fruit smoothies that are really hard to resist.
