Hello and WELCOME to our school readiness program where one of our resident leading experts, Sonja Walker, talks us through everything we need to know about our children starting school.

In a busy Kindergarten or Prep classroom next year, your child will need to know how to safely use scissors, because the teacher is unlikely to have the time or opportunity to help every child in the room individually. In this video, I share some great tips for helping your child learn to use scissors successfully, and you also have the chance to download a helpful fact sheet that will provide you with resources to help build your child’s cutting confidence at home.

We will be releasing a new video each day for 25 days so please join us to learn all you need to know about starting school!

  • Thanks for your tips and the lefty scissors. My kids love cutting out in kindy.

    • It is so good that left handers have the products they need too!

      • Yes, some don’t realise how awkward some pairs of scissors and other “tools” are for left handed people to use. They put pressure on parts of your hands.

Be sure to tell you youngsters that scissors are only to be used when permission is given. Cutting what they are given to cut is OK, but they could take it upon themselves to cut other things too. I know a 4 y.o. who did just that. The parents couldn’t get them same scissors to cut what he did though. They were crayola scissors. Just proves how sharp they are as it was thick card paper. They had to request a copy of what he “destroyed”
