I think as parents we tend to stress way too much about our children and their abilities re school. Let each child learn at their own pace.

Social skills are very important for school readiness.

This isn’t a problem- with four children and all competitive, they learnt early that they wouldn’t get they own way and I made sure the eldest lost occasionally when we played together too, so he could be more caring of his younger siblings. It worked.

I kept my son in kinder for an extra year due to his not being quite ready for school in a social context. It’s truly one of the best things i’ve ever done. 🙂
