Hello!

I have 3 boys who are very active. But I have one that is very accident prone. They say that you have one in every family but I come from a family who never had accidents or not major ones anyway! My second child a couple of days after his 2nd birthday was riding on one of those scooters with one wheel on the front and 2 on the back. He was out with his brother and dad and I was inside when I heard the cry. Its the cry that stick in my mind that this is not a ouch I have hurt myself a little bit cry. I rushed outside as my husband was rushing in and said I think he has broken his leg. I was kind of in disbelief I think but run around as fast as I could for a 7 month pregnant woman can to make sure we had everything for a trip to the hospital. My son was not crying overly much on the way to the hospital but when we got there x-rays were taken and we were told this was not your normal break. Because he had broken his bone in his upper leg he was flat on his back in hospital for a couple of weeks with his leg is a traction. He was on high pain killers and it was really painful as a mother to watch. I even had another mother come into the ward and she cried because she had a daughter the same age and to see the pain he was going through distressed her. After a very long couple of weeks of living at the hospital he was put under and they put a full body cast on and after a couple of days we took him home. The cast was to stay on for about 4 weeks and being pregnant it was hard to carry him around. It was very hard to try and keep his cast clean as it was a body cast there was only a little area cut out where we had to put a nappy in and then another over the top. We were amazed at our little boy and how he adjusted to everything. It is something that we will not forget in a hurry. And yes that 3 wheel scooter was put away never to be used again!! We got him a 2 wheeled scooter so his foot could not get stuck in the back wheel.

  • My litte brother managed to fall over every day for about a week. Just about every time he took skin off his nose, then it got itchy as it started to heal and of course he scatched it. Just as well Mum had plenty of bandaids.
It odesn’t take much to break a bone. I stepped off a narrow concrete path at home and broke my foot, fell and landed with my under me and broke it – years apart.

  • Oh no! That’s awful! I thought my son was accident prone but for him it’s always just the little bumps on the head. Hope nothing major like that happens in the future!
