Hello!

First day back at school followed by a busy night of homework. Its hard when you have had a long summer break to suddenly get faced with a mountain of work to do. Your tired already from school then extra tired with all this work on top! Bit of a shock to the system!
I hope everyone else had a good first day back.

  • I’m sorry your kids had a bad experience. Mine hate school, so when it’s the first day back, it’s a fight all the way. I don’t see the point in homework. I’m partway through a teaching degree, so I know what it’s for… But I think it’s ridiculous anyway. The poor kids, if they need extra help with their school work, by all means, send work home… But if they’re grasping it… I say let them be kids.

  • AT least at my kids primary school they have given the a week off homework, other than to take a few items from home that explains who they are, (bit like show and share).

  • Day one homework, training dinner and bed for us!

  • Homework on day one? That’s a bit harsh!

  • I’m so glad my boys haven’t had homework this week. They are starting homework next week so we get a bit of an ease into it.

  • I know your pain, but add training then dinner then bath abd before you know it I’m exhausted and asleep in couch. Luckily I have an amazing hubby who made delicious dinner for he and I.

  • I have a niece first day at Kindy today and a nephew first year in Year 7. My sister in law was complaining how they made mix classes with Kindy/ Yr1 in one class already . Total of 22 students . Looks like short resources on teachers already .

  • Already homework on the first day? I don’t like it when kids get too much homework. The work should be done at school, not at home.

    • Homework on the first day is tough – but homework in moderation is ok. Revising work does help to learn.

      • Yes, if it’s just revision it’s fine. But in my idea there shouldn’t be more than half an hour of homework in primary school, and one hour in secondary school. I wish it really was that way.

  • The first day is always exciting – the nerves, excitement and brains in overdrive.

  • Mine is in year 4 and only had a little homework on day 1 – I had thought they might wait at least a day! Sounds like your family has been given heaps. It is a very big change of pace going back to school and the kids are super tired, which only adds to the workload. Keep this weekend free if you can as the kids are going to need some down time.
