Hello!

I took “Miss 3″ to our local shopping center, which inevitably has a pet shop right inside the main doors, which of course has the cages with all the cute little kittens and puppies, which naturally we walked past right at the time they were taking the kittens out to clean their cages. Miss 3 runs up to the lady and asks to hold the kitten, after alot of explaining how to be gentle and how to hold a kitten Miss 3 is handed the kitten.. After copious amounts of “oohing and ahhing, hugs and kisses” it is time to hand back the kitten..

The bottom lip drops, the eyes well with tears and my heart breaks at the words “But she needs to live with us for pats and hugs, you love me but who will love her, please dont let her live in the bird cage forever”

Needless to say Miss Kitty (now 1 year old) is now the queen of our house, and has a loyal and dedicated servant (yes I say servant) in Miss (now) 4, every time I look at her I remember Little Miss’s eyes filling with tears at the thought of the kitten living in a cage, and thank my lucky stars she is such a loving little soul!

Moral of the story .. NEVER enter the shops via the entrance with the pet shops! (lol)

  • Miss 3 is absolutely right, and it’s lovely that you saved the kitten from living in a cage, but as others have said, it does feed the atrocious industry that is pet shops with puppy farming etc. I don’t think any animal should have to live in a caged environment, and hate that people are happy to work in such places or condone it. What happens to the ones that aren’t so lucky? Greedy people who will do anything for money, including hurting innocent creatures. Of course they put the pet shop in a high traffic area because they know there’ll be parents giving in to their kids’ pleas to get the cute puppy/kitten. It’s funny how they don’t sell adult animals. The last time I got a new cat I went to the pound and adopted an adult cat.

  • Another note to story, pet shops usually sell puppy farm puppies, where the living conditions are abhorrent and the animals suffer greatly. Please DONT BUY PUPPIES FROM PET SHOPS

  • LOL My son always wants to see the puppies when we pass by the pet shop…. Thankfully we’ve got two big dogs at home so he doesn’t want another one… yet!
