My daughter has 3 boys which she had just collected from kinder & day care and picked her partner up from work, they were stationary at stop lights one street from home when they were suddenly rammed from behind and shunted into the cars in front of them. My daughter looked in the rear vision mirror just before the impact to see a driver looking down (probably at his phone) she screamed for the family to prepare, then BANG. Luckily my daughter insisted on geeting the best car seats as this saved the childrens lives. Please invest in the best car seats for your kids and make sure they are always used.

  • Also ensure they are within their manufacturer date period if using for multiple children or purchasing second hand. I wouldn’t use a second hand one unless I knew the history and it were off someone I knew. Not worth the risk

  • Totally agree! And be careful with 2nd hand ones,,especially if they’ve been in an accident. I remember my mum telling of when she was learning to drive, my 1 yo sister and myself (then 4yo) on the back seat, no child restraints in sight…..for a learner driver! Aaaaggghhhh! The good old days ay?

  • So so lucky, too many idiots on the road. Glad to hear your family are all ok

  • Omg how lucky they are all okay!
And I’m a massive advocate for car safety.
We did so much research on which car seats were the best out at the time we purchased our seats for our newborn (now 14 weeks) and my son who is a very, very tall 3 year old. We also do extended rear facing. And my daughter will be hopefully reaefacinf until 3

  • They do work I was in a car accident with my daughter 2 years ago and other than both of us being in shock we walked away in once piece.

  • How terrifying! Car seats are one thing I wont compromise on for this very reason.

  • Car seats and seat belts save lives! Can’t believe some parents still let the kids climb all over the car while driving! Crazy!

  • I’m so glad your family is okay.

  • Also; there are organisations that will fit your car seat for free and ensure it is safely secured in your car. It is well worth the time!

  • Just remember that the most expensive seat is not necessarily the best. The seat that allows your little one to rear face the longest, then be in a 5 point harness for the longest, etc, is much better than a seat that is expensive because it has all the bells and whistles. Getting the right seat for your child is more important than getting the most expensive. The current law is the minimum. Recommendations go much further than this.

    • I didn’t mention expense???, just the best seats you can invest in, luckily my daughter did her research.

      • Sorry, I think some others mentioned getting an expensive seat. It wasn’t a criticism, just letting people know that their children can be safe without buying the most expensive seat/ Great work on your daughter’s part.

  • I had a car accident 3 years ago, I have always brought the top of range safe n sound car seat, my son didn’t move or get hurt I sustaioned major whiplash and safe n sound replaced car seat at no cost after accident due to crash replacement was so impressed Id never ever buy a cheap seat as my kids life’s are more important than money and our car was a major right off it nearly took roof of car off, not a panel untouched, I slipped on oil on road in pouring rain and hit the metal ropes in middle of freeways, they are so dangerous but the seat avoided him getting hurt so please take car seat buying seriously.
