Hello!

I am really wanting to get out into the workforce after being out for 15 years. I volunteer at the local school and for the benevolent society. The problem being that I need money and can not afford to continue for ever with the volunteer work, I am staying with it to get the experience, but what i really want is to go and earn a wage. Problem is I would like to study but don’t know what. I am good with admin work and kids and i love artistic things. Any ideas on what i should do?

  • I’d definitely contact your local TAFE or WEA re all the courses they do. I was a bit like you, not sure what I wanted to do. I got a course guide from our local WEA, did a couple of short courses in areas that I had some interest, and that gave me a much better idea of what I wanted to do for paid work. Then I was able to study seriously in an area that I knew I enjoyed, and get paid work in that area.

    • Great advice! Agree with what you’ve said.

  • Might be continue study computer or teacher.

  • if you goto a tafe, you will be able to see what courses are available and what ones qualify for austudy (as not all do), they may also be able to guide you towards something you already have strengths in

  • admin is a very broad area with lots of different job options so if I were to take a course this is where I would be heading

  • I was just about to post something similar to this. I would like to work more than a few hours a week and get more money but I have no idea what direction I want to go. I’ve thought babysitting, cleaning, admin, studying computer courses but I’m not really sure what I want to do/be. I’ll be keeping any eye on this post. Good luck to you.

  • perhaps before committing to a long term study plan try the workforce to get an idea if you really want to do what it is you ‘think’ you want to do. try before you buy!!!

  • Perhaps look at running an art class for the little ones near your area?
