I was shopping the other day for some DIY supplies and an elderly lady approached me asking if I could help her with selecting paint. I offered to help her out as she seemed somewhat in need of some assistance as she looked flustered and unhappy. I started to look at colour samples with her and asked her about her painting project. Then she selected a colour and asked if I could mix the colour for her. I politely explained that I did not work at the store. She was somewhat surprised as I just happened to be wearing clothing that looked like the uniform of a well known warehouse. I looked at my clothing and laughed and agreed that indeed my clothing did make me look like a staff member. She explained that she had been ignored by other staff members and they had looked away when she had looked at them for assistance. I very politely but with purpose gained some staff attention for her. She thanked me and I was pleased to help her. My clothing gaff was a good thing after all.
