Hello!

I had another antenatal appointment last night & was given a different midwife to my usual.. I found it so frustrating, not only was there a trainee in there, who the midwife spoke to more then myself which I found quite off putting, But she was very blunt in comparison to my usual – particularly about my frame – Being sure to mention I was very small (even though I started out at 53kgs, and am now 67 at 31 weeks).
It completely put me off & left me feeling quit nervous as to whether I had anything to worry about.. I couldn’t even manage any question.. I wonder why some women work in such a job if they can’t manage to be more polite..

  • yes they have to realise that their manner will affect your experience. you don’t want to ask questions if they are rude

  • Found out my regular midwife has gone on holidays after seeing her last visit & having her reassure me the midwife I made this post about was probably just having a bad day/night and not to take it to heart – I left there feeling much better..
Wondering if i’ll receive her again tonight :S not looking forward to it really but what can you do lol ! Had my last ultrasound scan & bubs is definitely NOT small hahaha so I’m thinking theres nothing to worry about :)

  • Not everyone is suited to the job they do, unfortunately. If it was me, I wouldn’t be able to help saying something to her, she may not realise how she comes across.

  • I don’t have a high opinion of midwives or nurses, I’m afraid – there must be some good ones out there, but I’ve had far too many bad experiences with callous, indifferent, lazy nurses and midwives with no interest in their patients. For them I hope simply that one day they’re ill, and get exactly the level of care they offered others. That would be revenge enough!

  • Everyone’s different with their bedside manner. It probably didn’t help that she had a student in with her. You can refuse to have the student next time.

  • There are always people that may not be suited to their job, maybe have a chat to your normal one when she gets back.

  • That is the last thing an expectant mum needs. These appointments are something you’re supposed to look forward to. I’m sorry you had this experience and yes I agree – people who work in such jobs I would have thought would have a more polite and congenial approach.

  • just brush it off at least you know they are not all like that. You find this in all work places the ones that are meant for the job and the ones that seem to be there for the income. Just don’t let her get to you

  • Lol I think I definitely let it get to me a little more then I should have.. More so the way she looked and tone she used when I said I didn’t have any questions.. (Oh well – Maybe next time then! she responded.) hahaha if I wasn’t so put off with her attitude I’d have felt more comfortable in asking.. But I figured I’d wait the 2 weeks until my next apt & speak to my usual midwife again (hopefully she is back!)

  • They are in every profession, but yes, you would think people would be a bit more forgiving….
