I need to buy a new clothes dryer. Presently I don’t have one. A company is soon to erect about 30 units on the property behind me. It means I may endure brown washing otherwise. Please does anybody have any good suggestions what a good brand of Dryer is.?? I will probably need to put it in my garage as my laundry has no windows or exterior door at all.

  • I have got a Hoover and it is over 20 years old and still working Although I must admit I hardly ever use it now. You should have a look at Deals Direct on the net . They have some very good offers sometimes.

  • I have a Simpson that is close to 15 years old and had a really good star rating for efficiency. I don’t use it often but it hasn’t missed a beat in all these years.

  • Have you considered using drying racks in the garage instead?

    • Thank you for your reply with helpful suggestions. Do you mean clothes airers that sit on the floor? I am in a Retirement Village so I don’t think I am allowed to attach anything to the wall in there. I was thinking of putting the dryer in the fully enclosed carport as there is a much larger space for any dampness to evaporate and hopefully not cause damage. I could get a small cupboard to sit it on. I don’t have a car so there is plenty of space and a power point in one corner. I keep the carport door into the unit double locked so little fingers can’t get in there when the visit. By the time the youngest one manages to open the high one, he will be old enough not to touch it. He doesn’t touch others where he visits.

  • I also have a Fisher & Paykel sensor dryer & it turns off when the clothes are dry so no wasted electricity drying clothes.

    • Does yours switch off and then if not emptied quick enough or the timer switched off it run for a minute or so at all? My neice has one that does that. It used to drive me to distraction until I worked out how to turn the timer back to zero. What about condensation? My laundry has no window or outside door.
Thank you all for your information. Still researching. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

      • It senses that the clothes are dry & just turns off but you can add a wrinkle free program that just keeps tumbling the clothes at short intervals if you require it.

  • My laundry is connected to my pantry as a walk through area and we have a condenser dryer. Granted they are a bit more expensive to buy but they leave absolutely NO condensation whatsoever!! instead of the water from the clothes/linen etc turning into condensation around the room making the walls and floors wet and slippery, It gets collected into a container in the top of the dryer which I then empty out onto my pot plants. They are great. I think from memory we got an AEG and I love it. It fits 2 bath sheets, 1 bath towel, 2 floor mats and a hand towel in it no worries.
    Great investment.

    • Thank you for your information. I will make inquiries at some electrical stores.
Do you remember where you bought it from. They have a store here in Adelaide.

      • I don’t have a walkway at all besides straight into the rest of the unit.

  • It depends on the amount of washing to dry; a small dryer or a large dryer? Hoover and Electrolux have been good.

    • I am own most of the time but my bed takes king size single sheets. They aren’t really wide enough so I may have to buy ordinary king size sheets and get somebody to alter them for me or they will be too big and on the floor for me to trip over. I mind relative’s young children and the sofabed is use for them takes double bed sheets. I often wash clothes I take off them if they get them dirty. Any suggestion what size I would need?

      • Our Electrolux Sensor Dry-6 kilo automated vented drying system machine; is able to take king size sheets; towels and large amounts of laundry items. It is efficient and we have not had any problems with it; which is such a bonus with electrical goods. Our machine is in our garage too. Good Luck! :)

  • That sounds difficult. I have had a Fisher & Paykel 7 kg for a couple of years now that gets used regularly in winter and also, when the girls need one of their uniforms cleaned for the next morning and remember at 10 p.m. The previous night!!
