Hello!

I love making healthy wholesome food for my baby daughter Phoebe and I constantly look for new ideas and new flavours to introduce to her! However, I am still so scared about giving her finger foods because she has choked on the a few times before and I was terrified! I tried my best to cook the food until they are very very soft but she still does choke unless i mash or puree them. She is 8 months now and i know I might be rushing into things but I do envy those who can give their bubs finger foods and enjoy their looks as they chew and bite through them ! Can’t wait for this day too :(

  • persistence is always the key, and its great that you are monitoring so well, but just keep trying and watching, it will happen :)

  • Sometimes they do take a while to get used to it – slowly but surely it will happen

  • All babies develop at different stages. Your baby will handle finger foods when she is ready, but you need to perservere with it. Offer them to her on a daily basis – sitting with her while she has them. The hard crust off a piece of toast with a smear of vegemite is often a good starting point.

  • My little girl took ages to eat finger food without gagging. Just let her take her time. She’ll get there. Sometimes they have a very sensitive gag reflex. It hopefully will settle as she gets a bit older.
