Hello!

As we in 2015 ,I’ve been reminded how our communities have changed ,mostly for the worse. We live in a coastal town ,with lots of tourists .They are so happy to be holidaying ,that’s fine like to support our town for revenue raising . But the local residents I find aren’t community minded ,only look out for themselves We been here 4 years & not had a nice time at all ,locals treat other residents terrible ,dobbing on nothing wasting tax payers money on false reports .No kindness or smile of acknowledgement ,just empty stares .Old days we said Hi ,have a good day now it’s ingnore & shut out .No friendly waves ,homes fenced in locked up .i know security reasons but we all not robbers etc or seek out benifts for myself .Wish Comunities would open up share a smile ,or have a chat .Not all of us out to rip off residence ,wouldn’t hurt to smile .!

  • A smile costs nothing, and sometimes the response you get back can make your day.

  • It’s the way if the world. Too much drug and alcohol abuse, thieving, assaults. People have had to become insular and look out for themselves. It’s sad, but a fact of life. I keep to myself fir these very reasons

  • Sometimes it is so hard to break into circles, I always try to remember to smile as it may change someones night

  • This is why I love the NT, you can still walk down the street and say hello to strangers and be met with a friendly response (most times anyway). People who haven’t been here think we still use horses and carts and are very surprised how friendly and beautiful the city really is :)

    • N.T is a great place & friendly east place I’ve lived but famil South .

  • i know how you feel. i have been abused for a random smile! I was sitting down at some tables when a woman with her child walked by. I smiled at her just to be friendly and she started screaming at me. my boyfriend at the time stood up and told her to calm down and so she told her kid to go and kick him. we watched her walk into a building that had a big banner in front of it reading along the lines of dru.g rehab support. So i think that she was venting at me because she had her own issues and was angry that i was happy when she obviously wasn’t. So people all deal with their own things that make them seem like sour pusses but don’t let that stop you from being cheerful and smiling. i know that i sure appreciate a warm smile!

  • That doesn’t sound nice and definitely not somewhere I would want to holiday. I always imagined coastal towns who depend on tourists would have strong communities

  • I am sorry to hear that you are feeling isolated in your community. I would suggest linking in with some community groups; ones that interest you. By joining a community group you may find like minded people and be able to develop some relationships and friendships. Try and keep a positive outlook and continue to say “hello”. You can only control what you do and say. Maybe a morning tea at your place for neighbours might be good for developing some community spirit. I wish you luck!

  • Maybe you just live in the wrong place?

  • It can be hard. When we first moved none of the neighbours seemed very friendly so I’d always make a point of smiling and waving when I saw them. Sounds like there is more to your story if people are making reports.

    • No more to this story ,many residence I spoke to seem to agree with me .Im in a coastal town with many different type of incomes .
