Winter in canberra is so scary. Everywhere you go there are kangaroos. I go for a run and they are next to every path. Driving anywhere is terrifying because you don’t know when one will jump out in front of you. I was driving home last night and a roo decided to cross the road in front of me. It’s the main road 5km from the city at 9pm. I had to swerve and had a very near miss. However, two of my friends have already hit roos in the last month! It is just so stressful! If only they used the underpasses or pedestrian crossings!

  • They even come into our driveway – and we’re in a built up part of Canberra.

  • Out in the hills one day a friend of mine had a kangaroo hopping along the side of the road beside her for a few km. They put their windows up in a hurry!!! They slowed right down so that it jumped against their vehicle the impact wouldn’t be as hard and do less vehicle damage. They then discovered they had a motor bike behind them which has wisely also slowed right down. The driver told he she was worried that the roo would jump between the car and the motor bike as the rider would have had no hope of not being injured. The passenger was watching the bike in the outside mirror, mainly becuase of the rogue roo. Fortunately the roo decided he would go off into the bushland. I have seen cars that have been economic write-offs as a result of hitting roos. One went between two cars being driven through a country town. One of the cars had just moved out from the kerb.

  • I don’t know why but lately we have been seeing a lot of Kangaroo meat being sold in supermarkets, restaurant etc and just came back from Adelaide the same thing !

  • We live in a rural area and I don’t like them either, they’re a damn nuisance, it’s not like they’re anything like Skippy.
