We are not rich or even well off in life, my hubby and I work hard for everything we have. We have a mortgage and I brought a car for work a year ago.. normal bills etc. But we were 75% through removations, things were looking up. first time since we moved into our home 10 yrs ago we had all new furniture. Then 31st ec last yr my hubby was made redundant. Ok no biggy he will land a job in no time we thought. 5 months and 3 weeks THAT DAY NEVER CAME… watching all our savings vanish, my hubby had a work car and phone so we had to use the redundancy for that. and our bills. I only work part time and I dont earn that much either, as the months ticked on things got soo hard. I tore my knee and needed surgey. to earn money we paid to go private which also lowered the money…Had to go for hardship on our mortage and so many other things. Was hard trying to get through each week… his work was in a massive decline…thousands of ppl going for the same jobs =( we have a daughter with ASD/ADHD so that took money for meds, pead apps you name it. It was scary to think how we would get on. But it strengthend our bond, our love and family. It brought us together. we didnt need to go out and spend money to have fun, it was movie nights and popcorn inside, it was picnics on the grass with the girls.. It made me soo all the materilstic stuff ISNT important! I am not one for that, but I did like making sure my girls had what they wanted. They have also learnt that money is something you have to work and earn. Instead of wanting something they ask what can they do to earn what they want.. they rake up neighbours yards for $1 I couldnt be more proud! its the best thing that has happened to us. He got a job a week ago. so things will get easier money wise and we can get ontop of bills once more. But Ive changed and for the better…its funny what needs to happen for you to see the BIGGER picture.

Post your story
  • Very interesting reading the advice given!

  • Love that this brought you together more as unfortunately we all know money can push lots of couples/families apart. Good on ya for sticking thru and good luck to hubby with the new job!

  • I am in the same boat, however my hubby lost his job about 9 months ago, its hard, but like you did we still have family time, movies at home, board games nights, playgrounds. I think that we are also stronger for it, knowing that no matter how hard it gets due to money, it won’t break us. I am glad your hubby just found a job, hopefully my hubby finds a job soon.

  • Sounds like you had a very difficult six months but a very fulfilling six months. Glad you can look back at it and smile now. Hopefully you and your family will have an easier second half of the year!

  • I’m glad things are turning for the best. And the teaching that this experience gave you and your kids, is wonderful. Wish you all the best in the times to come.
My husband’s position was also made redundant time ago. It took him 11 months to find a new position. But luckily at the end of a tunnel there is generally some light. :-)

    • Its so very true. Always said to.my hubby something will come. He was getting worried. But made him see things so much more differently too. He is from a very materialistric family so this did him some good. Your hubby sounds strong willed too. 11 months is a long time.. Good on him for not giving up.

  • Glad to hear that your husband has managed to find work now. But as your story shows its the bonds we have with our loved ones that are the true value in life. I’ve been in a similar situation being out of work longer than we wanted or could afford but we have got by and our relationship is stronger than ever. Hope things forever keep improving for you all :)

    • Its amazing isn’t it. I must admit i thought things would of fallen apart. But they didn’t. Made us so much stronger. And if there was doubt before if we were meant to be together that’s long gone. Our girls are so much more greatful for things now too.

  • Good on you for coming through the tough times and for sharing your story.

  • I’m glad you’re expecting better days now.

  • I’m sorry you have had such a tough time but I’m very glad you can see the good that has come out of it.
You are a great person and should be very proud.
I’m glad things are going to be easier now

    • Thankyou for the beautiful kind words. It was scary as I have seen friends seperate in this situation, but it made us stronger! i am even amazed =)
