Story IVF STORY ON 4 Corners

Great story on 4 corners last night with regards to IVF in patients over 40. http://www.abc.net.au/4corners/stories/2016/05/30/4469652.htm

I have gone through IVF myself at two different locations and have had different experiences at both however I was always told the statistics and was never guaranteed anything.

We did 4 rounds of IVF, we live on the South Coast of NSW and had to travel a few hours just to get to clinics for appointments and treatment. Every round was different and along with the expense which I would happily do again, it is an emotional roller coaster and we are lucky enough to have a positive story.

We are going to try naturally again for our second Bub as hopefully my body has adjusted itself as I would only do IVF again if I was desperate but I have one beautiful child and if that is all I am meant to have then so be it.

  • We were very explicitly advised how low our chances were; luckily, we were the 2 per cent.

  • The IVF treatment is indeed a big roller coaster. I went through it too. My daughter was born with ICSI, a variation of IVF. And it was hard not only financially but emotionally too. In some moments you are just positive and you have the right attitude to face the disappointments. In other moments it’s so incredibly difficult to keep a smile on your face and believe that you will be able to become a mum.
    I’m glad we were both able to have a child! :-)

  • What a fantastic attitude! I think people don’t always appreciate the blessing of a child. You are very lucky if you manage to have 1 child and should always treasure them. Some just regret the fact they couldn’t have more. Focus on the positives I always say. Congrats on your number 1
