Did you know that if you package up your mail correctly you can save money? My nephews and nieces live interstate and when sending presents, usually clothes, I used to roll up into little parcels. I have since discovered, if I wrap them flat, so the parcel is less then 20mm high, and they don’t exceed 360mm in length, 260 mm in width (a document envelope is great for this) and weigh under 500 grams, I can send as a large letter! Much cheaper! A little thoughtful packaging could save you money!

  • Great suggestion. Parcels are so expensive to send these days. We have also found if you have to send things that way a heap it so much cheaper to look up a site like interparcel. They give you a range of services to choose from. The other month if we sent a item boxed up through ausrtralia post it was going to cost over 40$ we put it through this group it cost us 20$ and they picked it up from our front door.

    • I’m going to have check this company out. With all my family leaving interstate postage gets expensive!

  • It is also a good idea to make up your own document size measurer-similar to the one at the post office. I have one and use it to check on the size of all letters; in particular ones for overseas mail.

    • Great tip! The lady at the post office let me trace hers. So I made my own out of cardboard so now when I post out orders for my business I can make sure they are under 20mm.

  • I used to squash everything down flat too as it is cheaper; unfortunately with the constant rise of postage I no longer send parcels. I send gift cards instead.
