Hello!

Our neighbours are building and I had to get some curtains for our privacy as they can now see straight into our family rooms. I went to spotlight and got a quote for simple curtains to be made. Unfortunately I had to get custom made as our windows are not the standard size. I was surprised at the cost. So I decided to make them myself. And with the rails (which I did get from Spotlight) and all the fabric etc it has cost me 1/3 of the cost of just the curtains. I have to say it did take me 3 days from start to finish, but I have saved myself $100’s of dollars!

  • Well done! Curtains aren’t just for privacy in our house tho, they’re also for keeping heat in during winter and heat out during summer.mso I’m surprised you only just hot them

  • You should be really proud with that skill and savvy sowing! I got decent second hand curtains from someone who redecorated and I’ve shortened them to fit our windows. It only took a few months to get around to finishing but now I have free curtains:) you did well to smash it out quickly!

  • I know – it takes a while, but curtains are fairly easy to make.

  • Good on you, I also am stunned at the high pricing for curtains these days. Have happily just waited it out for sales or tediously sewn up a batch or two myself being the non-sewer that I am. They’ll never make an interior design mags :) but there’s no way I could justify out laying that much just to cover a few windows.

    • Waiting for sales is good and also having a go at making your own curtains too – I have done both and been happy with the results.
