It is understandable to have these feelings. Hope you get some grandma time soon.

It is hard. I think relatives overseas have the same problem! In our case I know that regular christmas and birthday presents (arriving in exciting parcels to be opened brings attention to a person they have never seen), a visit when the children were old enough to understand/remember and now the occasional Skype when they are older does wonders for bringing a distant person into children’s lives. They talk about the person, remember them in conversations and this relative who they have only seen once has managed to make an impression. I’m sure it is hard on the distant person, but you can take heart that the child can still be “supported” and you can play a very very important part in their lives even if you don’t get the joy of being there in the way you’d like to be.

I understand. It’s absolutely not the same. You may talk in Skype regularly and see how he is doing, but you miss the physical part, that is so important with a small baby.
