My Mum’s my best friend who has helped guide me through life’s web. Sometimes I don’t even realize I need her but she is always there. This Mother’s Day I gave her a diary and entitled it “MUMS – the word!”

I also inscribed it “To my Mum – the person that gave and guides me through life! You have stood by me, watched and corrected me where you could. You motivated me to dream, to believe in myself. And when I was in trouble, you were my superhero! – I LOVE YOU AND THANK YOU!”

I then explained it was titled “Mum’s the word” because this is what you say when you promise to keep a secret – which is effectively what a personal diary is and because whenever I had a secret, Mum is the one I could always trust to keep it!

My Mother was in tears and it really was the closest I have ever felt to her. I think little things like this are more important than breakfast in bed or expensive presents and if I am ever lucky enough to have a child all I want for Mother’s Day is to be told “I LOVE YOU!”
