Hello!

It was a sunny July day in Melbourne, my son was outside with dad playing, I was Inside with my 6 month old daughter. All of a sudden I hear a huge crash out on the decking, I ran to the door, where I found my 3 year old son with blood pouring out of his mouth, this was one of the worst moments of my life so far, what had my sweet boy done to himself? I picked him up and took him to the bathroom to see what damage had been done. With my son crying I try to look at his mouth, which was near impossiable but I could notice a tooth missing. I asked my husband what happened, he said he fell of the swing.

As I rush to pack a few items for my baby, and comforting my son at the same time, anger came over me, what the hell was my husband thinking, he must have been doing what I have been telling him not to do for months now, which is swing my son so high, this swing was not made to go high, it was a low swing, for the child to lie on, it was a circle swing from ikea.

We go emergency, there we wait for hours with my son crying, my mum comes to pick up my daughter, who I then don’t see for the next 24 hours. Finally we get to see a doctor, we xray my poor sons face, and find out 2 teeth have actually gone inside his gum. Oh my God, the pain my child was in when this happened must have been extreme.

Next stop Monash Hospital, where we were could not help with the surgery that needed to be done, so off we went, making one stop at home for clothes for son, as the ones he was wearing were blood sooked.

We waited around Monash till 2am, then they got my son into the surgery, he is quite a strong little boy, so holding him down and getting that gas mask on was very traumatic. It was 3am when we could see our son again, he started to wake up and he was transferred to the Childrens ward.

11am that morning we we’re able to go home. The next 4 says were horrible, my son hates Panadol, would not eat, drink very little and his lips we’re so swollen, I could hardly recognize to boy. There were moments when I thought I was never going to have my son back to normal again. But he I did get him back, just with 2 missing teeth.

Thank you for reading my story.

xx

  • What a horrible ordeal for you! My son ended up with stitches in his head and a ride in an ambulance after a balloon he was lying on popped and he fell face first into a sliding door track. It’s a very stressful time!

  • Oh no your poor little boy! This happened to a friend whose daughter fell off a step and lost her two front teeth. It’s traumatic for everyone, but at least they’re only the baby teeth and the ones he’ll have for life are yet to emerge.
