As I sit here feeding my new son, I can hear my first “baby” making a fuss outside…barking at my husband & eldest son to welcome them home

I got my dog before I met my husband…she was my present to myself, someone to keep me company in my recently purchased house (my first!). She was a little fluff-ball who used to like nothing better than being carried around zipped up warm inside my jumper or jacket. She would curl up next to me & watch TV with me or “help” me mark my students’ work at the end of a day’s teaching. She would listen to all my news – good, bad, boring or otherwise – and was the keeper of all my secrets and dreams.

Nowadays we don’t get to share as many quiet snuggles together…got two little boys who take up a lot of my snuggling time now. She protects my boys and loves playing with my eldest now that he’s old enough to be able to throw her toys for her (and sometimes at her!) and run around the backyard with her. As my boys grow up, I know that, like she has been for me for so many years, a friend, companion, playmate and keeper of many secrets and dreams.
