I involve my children and grandchildren with all my cooking. I love to share the responsibilities of teaching them how to cook and plan meals. My family are great healthy eaters too. My scraps are put in a food bowl and at the end of the day all scraps are taken out by the children to feed the animals. We got chooks ducks goats rabbits guinea pigs fish dogs and cats. Thats why its so important to collect as many scraps as we can. Cant let the family go without so i cook lots of interesting things. The kids love mixing the cakes, adding decorations and just enjoy getting a chair up to the bench. They also have fun water play doing the dishes now. Not bad hey for under 3. I was so amazed that when my grandson came last week i offered him a biscuit. No grandma he said. I would like cake please. Now this must be the first time hes asked and i did not have cake so he settled on a biscuit. No matter what you teach your children they do seem to take it in. I love them all

  • That’s great and I love how you use all your scraps for the animals, sounds you’ve a bit of a zoo ;)

  • Wait until you are asked to make all the birthday cakes, decorated with their latest character they love, including a racing car track with cars on it (a little girl ordered that)

  • I love the fact that your grandson said “please” on his own accord. So many need to be reminded or parents and/or other relatives don’t bother to teach them or enforce the rule. It isn’t that hard to teach them to say “please” and “thank you”. If ours don’t say “please” they are ignored until they do. They also say “thank you” when they are given anything. On a couple of occasions when one of my nieces refused their Dad reached across the take and removed what she had been given. She always said “thank you” after that as she knew she would lose whatever it was, including food until she did.

  • that is great! i love teaching my kids how to cook or bake so they can be self reliant when they get older. it is a sweet thing that your grandchild has associated this fun with you!

  • 2 out of 3 of my kids are now Chefs and i could not be prouder of them and there love of good food.

  • Cooking with my kids is a thoroughly enjoyed activity in my home too. And it’s such a valuable life lesson to learn. Nothing better, new spend time together, have fun together and they’re learning. The best

  • There are sponges for information! Thanks so much for sharing this!

  • Yes, kids just absorb information!

  • Thanks for sharing a lovely story – cooking as a family is such a wonderful experience and great life skill. I love it too – it is a real gift to share with a family. The family that cooks together and eats together is happy! :)
