My kids are always asking when are we going on a holiday as our last and only holiday was about 8 years ago to the Gold Coast to do all the Theme Parks it was a great holiday. But now want to go overseas London and Europe but it is so expensive as there is only a one income household I keep telling them that one day we will get there but that day seems to never come I am trying so hard to save some money but always seem to need it for something else like bills anyway I will keep saving and I know one day we will get to go overseas sooner or later

  • Lots of little holidays can be just as much fun as one big one.

  • We always go camping and my girls constantly ask when are we going to take a ‘real’ holiday staying in a resort.

  • Dream your dream & set your goal. You’ll get there, just keep believing.

  • Maybe try going to New Zealand or something cheaper. They will love wherever you go.

  • Holidays can be expensive that is for sure. i think you just have to forget about the money you put away to save and do not count on it to cover bills try and find another ways.

  • I understand completely what your saying as my family is in the same situation but lucky for me my children are old enough to understand. Living off one income is extremely hard & saving is even harder. We do however take the children on an overnight or two night stay at a fairly cheap hotel but only after finding a location where’s there is lots of free activities so this way they don’t feel like that never get a holiday. Good luck with saving for your overseas trip

  • Having such an exciting goal should help you to save a bit – it’ll be worth the wait, I’m sure.

  • I would sit your children down and tell them just how expensive it all really is (thats of course if they are at an age of understand money).

  • Good luck.. that is a big goal but it will be so worth it once you get there

  • Yes it does take a long time to save this significant amount of money. Putting a small amount away each week and have a long term goal is the way to go.

  • We also wanted to go to England and Scotland but I can’t see that happening as I have a sister in law and a brother in law I have never met as well all their kids.
Try putting every bit of change into a money box and call it your holiday fun. As it is getting a bit out of reach for people to go away….hope you do get there one day

  • Maybe get them to help start saving little things such as selling old stuff on eBay, doing a trash and treasure, maybe deliver papers or catalogues locally.. That way everyone helps, and the holiday might come around sooner than you think
