Hello!

I was at a shopping centre with my then 4yr old. We were headed to the toilet which was down a quite narrow corridor to begin with. As we rounded the corner a very tall, very overweight man was coming down the corridor. I just knew it was coming and right on cue 4yr old points and very loudly said ” Mummy, that man is soooo fat”. I sushed her and quickly said we don’t say things like that and i would explain more later. I apologised to the gentleman as we waited for him to come down the corridor. Luckily, he was a lovely man and said to my daughter very nicely, “Yes, i am fat, and if you never want to end up like me, eat all the good things your mum asks you to and keep lollies and sweet things to a special treat”. Now 7yrs old, we call her a fruitarian, because, even when offered a treat, she will pick fruit. She asks for salads in her lunchbox and has her favourite veggies she will always eat. I often wonder if it was that interaction that has anything to do with it.. Either way I’m glad she’s a healthy eater.

  • Oh what a nice man to actually stop and explain to your daughter about being big and eat what your mum gives you
