Hello!

I am going to contribute and share a series of ‘My Story’ about the journey i have had with my son, some funny, some sad, some very unbelievable. I assure you they are all true.

I am a single mum and have 2 children. A daughter 22 and a son 12.

My son was always a difficult child as a toddler, i put it down to being spoilt by his sister and I. On entry to school he was seen at the boisterous one. the child that in kindergarten was ‘free spirited’

His second day of school, his teacher asked to talk to me after class, so i stayed around and was wondering what on earth she wanted. As she approached me I could see a difficult smile coming to her face. It was like she didn’t know how to broach a certain subject. My heart was starting to beat a bit faster.

Anyway she stood in front of me saying my sons toilet habits need attending to. I was astounded, what did she mean ‘toilet habits’. My son was toilet trained from an early age and had never had an accident. BUT apparently it wasn’t his actual toileting that was a problem, it was the fact that he undressed completely to go to the toilet. Oh my! i hadn’t thought about that, my son was one of these children that used to hate wearing clothes, and because he feared he would get his clothes wet when he went to the bathroom he would strip off. Well he didn’t see the difference between school and home, yep you guessed it, he had gone to the toilet, undressed, and come back into class with his clothes in his hand asking the teacher to help him get dressed. My first thought was OMG, the poor teacher, but then i realised my son had probably been so embarrassed.

I took him home and explained to him why he had to remain clothed at school, we also practised going to the toilet fully dressed. And so began our journey into the unknown… the journey of a ‘free spirited’ child.

Post your story
  • I know little boy who was taught to kick his pants and undies off because otherwise he didn’t pull them down far enough. Also, while toilet training he also got a few pairs wet, sometimes because he waited until the last minute to go. He also still mostly sits on the toilet to do a wee too. Think his Dad needs to do some training with him.
