Hello!

I went to the shop today. I just needed to grab some milk. I was in a hurry, tea was on the go, bub was getting grumpy, other kids had school stuff to do. Straight in, grabbed the milk, raced out and home again. Finished tea, washed up, bub in bed, older kids school stuff done. I was really looking forward to sitting down with a lovely cup of tea and putting my feet up for 5 minutes. The milk was off!!! Aaaaarrrrrgggghhhhh! I checked the use by date….3 days ago!! How does this happen? Shouldn’t the stock be checked regularly, milk should be done daily i thought

  • Thats disgusting!!! They no way should have dairy items that old still on the shelf..someone is not doing their job!

  • This seems to be going on a lot, even at major supermarkets lately. We had an experience with a major supermarket on two occasions, where an end cap that is used to out items on special had in the first instance strawberries with mould on them and the second time broccolini that when picked felt like rubber and was so limp it flopped to either side of your fingers. We picked up multiple bunches and it was the same issue. We decided that any vegetables in the future would be bought from a green grocer, unless
    in an emergency.

  • That would be so annoying! You should put in a complaint!

  • You should either call or write a complaint to the store as they can get in a lot of trouble for that and would probably compensate you with a gift card. At the very least you could return the milk with your receipt and get a replacement (a bit late when and difficult when you have a child). I found some tofu once that had expired and as it wasn’t marked down I enquired with the staff as to if I could get a discount and they almost flipped their lids because it shouldn’t have been on the shelf and couldn’t do enough for me including giving me whatever tofu product that I wanted as a replacement and a voucher to use next time too.

  • I have found older stock at the back with new at the front at times. Yes all stock should be rotated but alas sometimes it’s not (possibly lazy staff wishing to fill shelf fast) Who knows?
Wishing you all the very best for next time.

  • Oh yuck, I know that feeling; I’ve often bought discounted milk and experienced the same thing, except the milk I bought was in date! How does that happen. I think it must of been a genuine mistake or a misplaced bottle I always check eggs and milk now.

  • This is so annoying when this happens really puts you off. I always take time now to check dates whether its marked down or not :) Sincerely another mum whom has ate and drank plenty of out of date stuff :)

  • I used to work in a supermarket, and perishable stock is usually checked daily, and reduced around 2 days before the expiry date. This must have been one the staff have missed.
I can imagine your disappointment, I enjoy my hot cuppa at the end of a long day!!

  • I was caught with yoghurt once. There was an old one amongst some I picked up. I didn’t check every container. I rang the store. I was not going to call another taxi to exchange it. I was lucky the store brought me a fresh one and swapped it over.

  • Thus has happened to us and I went the next day and A quarterback of the milk on shelves was off. I spoke to manager who said get was an oversight. We were lucky that no one drank it but now I double check the use by just to be safe.

  • Stock is checked and rotated daily usually – somehow they must have missed that one (unless a corner store type shop – they seem to be more careless in my experience)

  • The staff certainly missed that one if it’s three days out of date.

  • Sounds as if they missed that one!Staff do check shelves for out of data produce regularly. Go back and let them know.
