A thought came to me yesterday that we are always giving our babies such positive and upbeat verbal encouragement in all the new things they can do (even if /and especially when they are not very good at it!).

In comparison we often ignore the times we get small bits of help and are instead grumpy and frustrated towards others (including our partners… especially when it comes to perceived lack of support or unbalanced household work). I decided that Instead of focusing on all the things I could be frustrated about (and lets face it there are lots when you are a mum) that I will at least once a day encourage in an upbeat way something my partner does that helps me. Who knows, maybe I can boomerang some appreciation back to myself in the process, and I really do think just adjusting the way you look at things is something I want to try and be better at.

Think about it – how good would it be to have someone tell you what a good job you are doing -(even if you are really bad at it!)

  • I must admit when I’m nicer to my husband he’s nicer in return and does more.

  • Hmm this is so relevant for me at the moment. Yes I encourage my husband a lot but u also notice many things I find frustrating. Good to compare it to how much I encourage my baby for just breathing! Thanks for sharing, a lovely thought.

  • I am always positive as negativity achieves absolutely nothing! :)

  • Great idea. It is good for our kids to see, and will make the person being praised feel good

  • Plus it’s such a good example to your kids for them to see you saying thank you to other people.
