Hello!

A friend of mine has been trying to lose weight.(I gave up years ago!)

She has been using a personal trainer, and dieting hard, and really truly trying.

She is looking great in my opinion, but I noticed something. Another friend saw her for the first time in ages, and said “the diet is working well so far, keep it up!”

Now on the surface, this seems to be a fairly postive thing to say, but when you think about it, what she has just said is “You are not good enough yet, keep trying”.

I started to notice just how often we are told by our friends, family and the media to keep trying we are not there yet.

I wonder will any of us ever get to that mythical there, or should we start being happy with what we have….

  • I would have just taken the comment at face value.

  • People should not comment on weight! It is a personal issue and I would never ever comment on a persons weight.

  • If you want to turn a positive into a negative well then you wont get any where in life …. you have thought and sat on this one comment too long. take it as it has been said and no other way.

  • It’s so frustrating when loosing weight to hear “your doing well”. What if I’m done and happy? It totally undermines the persons feelings. I think “great work!” Is more than sufficient.

  • I never saw it that way, but you are right. I lost 17kg before I fell with my last and everyone said at the end I had lost enough weight. I am jut staring gain as I have put that weight on since bub, and people do say you are getting there. I guess thy dont realise what they are saying

  • Reading between the lines. I agree with you. I have recently lost a lot of weight yet people say wow you look great but lose no more, I read between the lines. Good on your friend for making a change in the right direction for her :)
