Hello!

My daughter will be 4 in August, she’s an only child, but she is number 9 of 10 grandkids and attends daycare 4 times a week.

Over the last few weeks she has started speaking in her own language and substituting words for gibberish for which i am continually telling her to cut it out….by now I’m thinking am i doing the right thing?

Am i hindering her creativity by telling her to stop? The words seem to be a play on normal words, which does my head in, but no matter how many times i tell her she’s not a baby and she needs to stop it, she always reverts back to it, and asks me to repeat them back to her.

Is this normal, and should i just let it play itself out?

  • I would suggest you seek support from a Speech Pathologist if you have any concerns. They can reassure you and also offer support.

  • Let it be. She’s not hurting anyone.

  • I am sure she has grown out of it by now.

  • I would also let her go for a while – my daughter did the same thing for quite some time (and she has an older brother) – she just has a very active imagination!

  • i would let her be. We get so restricted nowadays being told what is right and what’s not… She is just a little girl
