Netflix! Has anyone got this yet? My hubby has signed us up and it is awesome! So many shows and movies, no need for DVDs, recording or streaming anymore. Old show, new shows, it’s got something for everyone.
It does leave me a little sad however, as we were talking about how this latest technological development would finally close down the last of the DVD rental stores. I remember when my family first got a video recorder and how exciting it was to go to the shop and pick out a movie.
Well not anymore, you just switch on your TV and viewing options are endless. RIP video shops.

  • yes and soon it will close cinemas when the new movies go straight to digital release. Going to the video store was a passtime. There are way too many crappy movies being made so why would you want to spend around $100 to take the family to see one movie and more often than not, it is a waste of money.

  • I have family and friends using Netflix and we considered it but depending how often you use it the data charges can be ridiculous and not worth it. It seem cheap but just be wary of the data charges for downloading everything you watch!

    • We’ve got Netflix and don’t get charged for any data downloads. It depends upon what internet provider you’re with.

  • I love that I don’t have to go to the shop to choose a movie, now if I feel like watching one it’s there instantly. I hated the overdue fees as I couldn’t be bothered going back to return it.

    • True that, no more late fees

  • Really??? We still use our local video store they have $1.10 movies on tuesdays so instead of us going to the movies we hire new realeases then.

  • I was just talking with my husband about this today. There is a local Blockbuster where we live, but I don’t think we go there more than twice a year.

  • Once or twice I have gone to the DVD kiosk, and only because it’s located right outside of my work.

  • I haven’t rented a dvd for years, I was sick of scratches on discs and figured I could buy dvds instead

  • I don’t know… they might survive. I don’t watch enough TV to bother with netflix, but I guess I might still rent a movie every few months.

  • We still have a local DVD store and I must admit, we hardly ever go there anymore.

    • We no longer have any video stores left in our area; however there are lots of second hand video stores that sell incredibly cheap dvd’s.

  • my husband and I were talking about this the other day. we don’t have Netflix but have foxtel and we find we don’t need to rent movies anymore but it is sad to see them all closing

  • Although we have been considering getting Netflix ourselves- control and convenience! We have yet to make that step as we also want to focus on moving more and more away from the sedentary side of things though that said we all love our movie nights!

  • I loved going to the DVD shop and do feel somewhat sad about them closing down.
