School holidays!!! - Real Mum story on MoM

Finally the school holidays have arrived!!! ( I am a teacher) it has been a crazy long term her in Victoria 11 weeks to be exact and the children were crazy ratty. It really baffles me as to why they create such long school terms. I know they have to work it around Easter and so forth but especially for kids just starting school it is a massive thing to take on. Maybe in the last week or so of term we should introduce a nap during the day. I hope in the future they can rethink the length of terms and spread it around a bit better. I mean an 8 week term followed by 11 weeks how bout next time a 9 and 10 week term!!!
Thank goodness for holidays!

They do work term one around Easter and it just depends on how early or late Easter falls. I don’t know why they have to do this though! It’s just like any other long weekend, just extra long!

This term is very long indeed. Here in WA still one week to go before school holidays. Can’t wait for them to start!

I totally agree my son who is in grade one has needed four days off school in the last three weeks due to been to tried and run down with a cold to think and I couldnt let the poor teachers deal with him while he wasnt thinking clearly, miss behaving and coughing everywhere. The terms should of been little shorter. I gather most of the younger kids at my sons school were run down and tired at the end of this term.

yes i think that the term wouldn’t be so bad if the school day was either shorter or they had more play time. By the time they get home, they are exhausted and then have to do it again. Maybe have a 4 day week. Maybe for the preppies they go on alternating days. Mon. wed. fri one week, mon, tue, thurs the next. Let them have a nap or rest time during the day

Yes I also think 6 hours is too long for kinder. But that is just my opinion. Thank you for the great job you do for our kids.

Enjoy your holidays and thank you for being a teacher.
My daughter isn’t at school yet so I haven’t taken notice of the term length, but it seems very silly to make it so long
