Just like all insurance policies. It’s also worth shopping around for private health insurancewe are just about to swap over to another company. With top hospital, top extras and reducing our excess, we are going to save $100 a month. That is a huge amount. I have read all the fine print and we are going to get more from the new company.
I wish I had of shopped around earlier

  • Keep an eye on multi policy discounts – even though the shouldn’t, they sometimes disappear from one year to the next. We have just taken this up with our insurer, and are getting a refund for the “missed” discount.

  • What company??
Should I consider NIB? I’m with hbf
They are good, but want a better deal! Bupa seem ok but poor customer service. Also thoughts on medibank!

  • Saving money is always excellent. We’ve tried shopping around and most places come back more expensive.. I suppose that means we are getting a good deal, but I want to save more!

  • Sometimes it is worth the change but some of these companies are hell bent on making you change no ifs or buts. One company rang me and told me I was paying cashews for peanuts with my present policy and pointed out another one but it was only for hospital. The lady then said to me after her sales pitch What part of this don’t you get or do you not understand?!! Other people have signed up way before you have! Anyhow I rang my health insurer and found out I was covered for a whole lot more and it turned out the lady from the switch company was not that honest or correct!

  • Check on waiting periods too, that’s the main catch with health insurance.

  • I find it difficult too to change. But it’s absolutely true that you can often get better deals if you shop around.

  • I’ve been in my fund for so long that I’ll lose benefits if I change.

  • Health insurance is a tricky and expensive business to navigate and well worth researching; just make sure of wait periods as some can have long waits.

    • Absolutely. Thank you I forgot to mention that

      • No worries! Good on you for raising health insurance which is so important; especially getting the best deal that you can from insurance companies.
