No way is my 8yo allowed to have any social media accounts and he won’t for many years to come.

This is so scary at my sons school its compulsory to have ipads from grade 3

It is the new norm. I work at a school and all the kids use Instagram, Facebook and everything else from a young age. So scary!

wow!!! thats scary. I almost have a 9 yr old and I think social media is ok within its limits.. I dont care if this is the new norm… it wont be the norm within my household! wow our kids are growing up way too young =(

I would hate to think this is the new norm.
I would love if it just all stopped or at least slowed down
Im not ready to jump on that band wagon yet
keeping mine away from social media and too much electronics as much as i can

My kids are 18,15,14 & 4 (the 4 year old has no electronic devices)
I have a limit on our home internet that their devices can only connect at certain times as we were also finding that school work was being put aside in favour of snap chat or facebook.
Even with my 18 year yes i know hes an adult but if he lives in my house he goes by my rules.

  Sounds like you have found a good balance.

Its a new norm, but it doesnt mean you have to agree with it.

My 10 year old isn’t allowed on any social media. My hubby asked me last night if we should set her up an account so she can talk with family etc…. NO WAY was my reaction. We have allowed an email address so she can email Nanny Poppy etc… but it is not for any other reason. Kids grow up too quickly, I think they don’t need to be rushed onto this kind of thing.

  I agree about kids growing up to quickly.

I think it is only the norm if you let it, miss 12 has very little social media and has not asked as her and her friends are not that keen on it

I think it’s becoming the new norm. My son is 8 and isn’t allowed to interact with others on social media yet, but I do think this is the way the world is becoming.

I don’t allow either of my children to have Instagram. I definitely won’t & don’t allow my children on any electronic device of a morning before school

they seem to get to that stage, but i think they enjoy it but i would try to encourage them to spend their time doing something else

Well it’s not for me and my boy will be turning 9 at the end of the year, but then everyone is different. My son loves technology, but there is so much of it around I try and limit him. I worry about children using Instagram etc, just because of security etc.

None of my kids are old enough yet, but I don’t plan to allow this much use of screen time.

I don’t know, I love technology and it’s there to be used, it’s not up to us to decide what is too much for other people’s children. I think it’s nice they skype before school to compare hair and clothes, no different than using the telephone, there are worse things they could be doing.
