Hello!

I know the basics,
Microwaving can make it unevenly heated and a few other basics, but I don’t know what other mums do.. What would be your suggestions on sterilising and washing etc. I wash mine with regular soap, I have tried using an electric steriliser, but to fill it and empty it, you have to pick it up. It’s bizarre and hard, the microwave steriliser, well I don’t know, I got told not to clean it.. What’s everyone’s thought, idea’s and what else have you learnt about bottle feeding?

  • I only ever washed mine in very hot soapy water. Scrubbed them zealously with a bottle brush, shaking rice around in them to be sure, then rinsed really well in very hot water. Both my bubs are still breathing :)

  • I used the microwave steriliser but as bub got bigger I just used the dishwasher.

  • We had an electric, then a microwave for when we went away, and always just though a pot of boiling water was best!

  • I always used an advent microwave bottle steriliser which I really liked as I hated those tablets that you can use. Before sterilising though I always washed them out with hot soapy water.

  • i use an electric steriliser and it is easy. All you need to do is make sure that you wash your hands before picking the bottles up after being sterilise, put it on a drying rack and thats it. And always make sure you wash your hands too before preparing milk.

  • The microwave steriliser doesn’t need cleaning because it gets sterilised with every use. I still think it needs a wipe over sometimes.

  • Thank you both so much!! At least I have conformation I’m doing something’s right haha. Thank you for the advice on washing the steriliser, did any of you use anything different for the washing liquid? Also what age did you stop boiling water?

    • i just used normal washing up liquid. i stopped using the sterilizer around 8months but that is just me. I figured that bub was using sippy cups so he was ok then. Some people might go longer or shorter but bub is eating food at this stage. If you really wanted to keep the lid on the sterilizer and use it again, i suppose that is fine but because you also put it on the bench when you use the microwave for food etc, i would keep mine clean and the baby nurses recommended that it gets washed after every use.

  • i washed everything just like normal and i used a microwave sterilizer. i let it all air dry afterwards and my baby never got sick. i only used the bottle for breast milk and only occasionally had to use it. You do have to wash the sterilizer though. Just make sure that you put the microwave on for a decent amount of time. Don’t stress too much, you and bub will be fine.

  • I used an electric steriliser when my baby had bottles. I washed them first with hot soapy water. I used to carry a jug of water over to fill it up.
