WARNING! Just received an email today (7/8/13) from the ATO about being entitled to receiving an amount of $7830 AUD refund. found this odd as have not done a tax return yet (and didn’t even earn that much!) on talking to the ATO this is a SCAM! it asks you to click a link or in my case download a zipped folder. ATO have advised they do not send emails to update you on your refund or ask for credit card numbers, that is all done via post. the email it was sent from was notice@ato.gov.au Sorry but I would hate to hear/see anyone get caught out on this one. I don’t know about others but I wait all year for this refund!

  • I got one too and rang the ATO. I also got a phone call to say I will receive a refund I just had to open up a webpage. I ask them to send the form in the post and they said but the Australian Government needs you to do it online and mentioned Western Union as well. I am glad I refused to do it as I was advised that opening this link could have caused me a heaps of problems.

  • This seems to be happening more on and more, and they prey on the non-internet savvy people that are still learning to use email and do not realise about scams. It is disgusting!
