Children see the news and hear the news and are exposed to the ‘bad’ stuff. Parents need to turn of the news when kids are around and turn off the radio. There are good things that happen in the world and I believe there are more good people in the world than bad people. Our kids need to hear positive messages, otherwise they will grow up scared. Definitely teach children stranger danger and protective behaviours, this is important, but children need to also know about the good in the world.

  • yeah the world is getting more volatile and the news now reflects that.

  • I agree 100%. I’ve seen kids so upset and distraught about what they’ve seen and heard in the news that they’ve missed time off school and needed counselling. Parents need to be more aware of what they let their kids know about

  • This gets so much harder when kids can read, though – its hard to shelter them from newspapers.

  • Totally agree. We don’t have the news on when my daughter is awake

    • The news just re runs/cycles through stories and kids just keep seeing and hearing the same news. Studies have shown that kids think it is something bad happening every time, rather than re runs. Kids just do not need it in their precious little lives.

  • I like your ideas here for tiny tots.

    • Kids do need to know about all of the good in the world.
