Sadly for the past several months I have been dealing with a toxic person that sabotages me at every opportunity. She swings between being outwardly pleasant to me in front of people and then silently trying to sabotage my work and outwardly being critical. She forms select groups and whispers about people and excludes people. I am a positive person and find her negative attitude and behaviour perplexing. Her ways do not get me down, however, I see the impact it has on others too and would love to know if you have experienced something similar and how did you deal with it? I prefer harmony and getting along with everyone as a positive atmosphere produces good work.

  • I was told by my boss that she was going to tell one of the others off for something quite serious that she did. To my knowledge she never said anything to her. My elderly Mother was taken ill suddenly and had to go to hospital by ambulance. I rang one of the managers, told him and sked him could he please let my superviser know. The phone isn’t always checked for about 1/2 hour after we start the normal time. I thought I did the right thing, that he would tell her when she walked past his office. No, he waited until he saw her about 1 1/2 hours later. I wasn’t able to ring again later that day as my mobile phone was flat and my Mother panicked every time I left her side. My supervisor lectured me for about 10 minutes saying the same thing over and over. Then she aid to me, “how is your Mother anyway, she could be dead for all I know”. An hour or so later when I tried to make a joke to lighten to the atmosphere to got told “don’t push it”. Needless to say I didn’t attempt to make discussion for the rest of that day becuase I was snapped at again later. In the end I told her to stop hassling me and she had the audacity she hadn’t. I was given the balance of the leave I had requested. I don’t know how she felt about that. She didn’t say anything to me.
