Hello!

I just thought that I’d share some tips for those mums that work from home like me. They’re simple tips and are easy to apply and chances are you already use them but you never know!

I work from home 3 days a week for an adventure company replying to emails, answering phone calls and data entry. I also have an 18 month old and 3 1/2 year old that LOVE to make NOISE!!

My tips for keeping your work professional when talking on the phone and being able to concentrate while replying to emails are :

*Keep your office space neat and tidy and have everything you use regularly at an arms length. I always have a note pad and pen on my desk at the ready, you never know when you are going to need them.

*You don’t have to use a traditional “desk” as such. I often have everything set up on our mantle in our bedroom as its the most sound proofed room. My boss prefers it to seem like people are calling an office when they ring so she likes me to eliminate as many back ground noises as possible {T.V, Radio, Screaming children etc}. The calls I receive only last an average of 3 – 5 minutes so this is fairly simple for me to do. If you work from home and your calls last longer than this a distraction in the way of colouring books or puzzles for your child could also come in handy to keep them entertained.

*Be prepared when you head down the street. Have your email account loaded on your phone and divert your calls to a second mobile so you have a portable office. {again, take a pen and paper}

*Don’t sweat the small stuff. If you can’t work, look after your kids and keep the house clean between the hours of 9-5:30 forget about the house work! It can wait until later in the day, your kids probably aren’t that patient.

If anyone else has any tips to share with me you’re more than welcome to. Any help at all would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Ange

  • These are good suggestions. Maybe hide any really noisy toys if you’re expecting an important call.

    • Hmmm. You need to hide really noisy toys if you work shift work too. I know somebody who took the batteries out of some when working night shift for a few nights in a row. Know the work, why do some people insist on giving kids the noisiest toys then can find and think it is funny??? ggrrr!!!
