Coles has released the perfect cake for all those amazing mud cake hacks mums (and dads!) love to make.

The Coles “make at home” mud cake is cheaper than the regular mud cakes, selling for just $4 and available in the classic chocolate mud or white mud cake.

Spotted in store by I Bought It At, the new variety is a huge hit with mud cake hack fans and that’s because it is icing FREE!

‘Yesssssss, this will make cake hacks so much easier,’ said one user on social media.

‘I love the icing … but this will make decorating so much easier.’ said another.

“Can’t even deal!” wrote another.

  • Supermarket mud cakes are the best. So moist and tasty

  • I’ve only ever made one cake in my life and it was with the help of a thermomix lol.
I love woolies mud cakes, they seriously are the best and the icing is the best part for sure. But using a packet cake mix would definitely be much more helpful, especially if you’re using a mould of some sort.

  • Pre-made still works out cheaper, you’d have to add ingredients to make these. Besides, Woolies ones are better lol

  • If I’m going to buy store bought then it might as well include the icing. Otherwise I’d rather make it at home

  • No thanks would rather home make a cake any day

  • You still have to buy the eggs, butter etc right? And the time. I like the mud cakes as they are, especially with ice cream or whipped cream.

  • You don’t always have to take the icing off for a mudcake hack. The Betty crocker icing range goes over the top easily and if you are stacking 2 for a naked cake it saves icing 1 layer!
