The top names predicted for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s third baby.

The bookmakers had Alice tipped as the top choice for a baby girl, but Ladbrokes now has Mary ahead of Alice, with odds of 7-1. Meanwhile Albert is tipped as the preferred boys name.

Mary is one of the Queen’s middle names. It was also her grandmother’s name – Queen Mary

Bets are on William and Kate’s third child being a girl, reports Daily Mail.

Jessica Bridge, of Ladbrokes, said: ‘We can’t quite put our finger on the link between Mary and the North West, but the overwhelming support means we have a new favourite in the royal baby name market.’

‘Punters are convinced the Duke and Duchess are expecting another little girl, and obviously it would be a lovely touch to honour Her Majesty’s grandmother, but it will be interesting to see if any boys’ names are backed over the coming weeks before the birth.’

Ladbrokes has Mary at odds of 7-1, followed by Alice and Victoria at 8-1 and Alexandra at 16-1, while Albert or Arthur are 12-1 for a baby boy.

  • I don’t care. I’m just really excited to wait it out and see what they have. No doubt the name will be official sounding and very proper. Can’t wait.

  • Whilst I do like some of the traditional names of royal forebears, I’d love to see William and Kate select a more “modern” though not outrageous name for their child. Even if it is a second name. Diana would be a lovely first name for a girl not only because of it’s significance but because it is a lovely name in it’s own right. A less traditional boy’s name is harder to select.

  • There are so many beautiful names out there. I’d love Diana Mary for a girl. Not sure about a boys name though.

  • Just hope that the child is well and healthy and loved as it is sure to be – whatever it is called is up to Will & Kate.

  • I wouldn’t be surprised if they chose Mary for a girl given the fact that it was a name used in prior generations for both Kate and William. Given the ciccumstances I don’t think the Queen would like Albert for boys name. Arthur is an unusual choice. I don’t think they will choose names that are too outrageous.

  • I hope they stay traditional but invent some new traditions too. Wouldn’t it be great if they went crazy and named the baby Neveah or Cash or something left field!

  • Alice is nice. Albert is nice too.

  • If it’s a girl I think the name Alice would be adorable.
If it’a a boy I’d prefer Albert to Arthur.
