A boxer and his wife have been slammed, even by their own family, for spending a “ridiculous” amount on their kid’s first birthday party.

Amir Khan and his Instagram influencer wife Faryal Makhdoom spent a whopping $140,000 on their daughter Alayana’s first birthday party, which featured a jungle-themed dance floor complete with hired “animal” dancers and suspended paper butterflies.

Their daughter ate caviar-scented rusks and was spoiled with a designer taffeta gown, while guests dined on a four-tiered birthday cake.

This cake journey only properly started a year ago. To all of you who don’t know me, I am a self taught cake artist which means everything you see on my page has been created by me and I have learnt to do this all on my own. This includes the cake that was featured in the @dailymail today. This was a huge opportunity and I can’t say it wasn’t nerve racking because the @faryalmakhdoom and @amirkingkhan chose me of all the brilliant cake artists out there to do her beautiful daughter, Alaynas cake. She specified that it would be a rainforest theme and pretty much left the design to me so this is what I came up with. Each tier took hours of sugar crafting but I got the result that I wanted and here it stands, in all its glory. Not many people get the chance to do something like this and it is what dreams are made of. Thank you to @faryalmakhdoom for trusting me with Alayna’s cake and being super chilled out. Without her support this would never have happened. It was truly a vision that came to life and if I’m honest, it still seems surreal. Happy birthday again to Alayna. May Allah (swt) give you a long, healthy life and may you shine bright just like your yummy mummy ❤️???? picture credit goes to @krixul #instalove #instacake #faryalmakhdoom #amirkhan #rainforest #potd #instapost #cake #cakeboss #cakegrid #cakestagram @cakedecorationmagazine @cakedecoratingheaven @cakeboss_people @cake @instacakers @___cakestagram___ @sturdycakestackers @trulymadlysweetlycupcakes @karen_davies_sugarcraft @cakes.n.sprinkles @sheri_wilson_ @massa_ticino_sugarpaste Topper made by @deluxe_balloons

The couple called on Opulence Events and Enchanted by Syma, a London company that describes itself as “Luxury Event Planning & Design”.

Many described it as “amazing” and “magical”, however not all shared the same view, saying it was “too much” and “ridiculous”.

“So stupid like you spent thousands of pounds on a party that people will forget by tomorrow but you could have just donated that to the poor,” one Instagrammer posted.

“What a disgusting waste of money,” another added.

Amir’s outspoken father, Shah Khan, also branded it “ridiculous”.

“An awful lot of money was spent on the party, and I feel it could have been better used. It seems a bit excessive to me,” he said.

“Every parent wants the best for their kids but what Amir has spent is quite ridiculous.”

Faryal appeared on a British TV program to defend and justify their lavish spending, saying: “I work really hard and so does my husband.”

She also added the $140,000 “probably is about three per cent of what we do earn”.

“Everyone’s different, everyone has a budget,” she said.

“I just wanted to do a big first birthday,” Faryal said, “and for them to remember that their mum and dad threw them a wonderful day.”

Do you think it is a bit too extravagant?

  • Wow lol, I’d never spend that much. 200 is a lot to me! But that cake is amazing

  • That is an insane amount of money. Much more than our wedding (and we didn’t skimp on it). Yes I agree with the comment that that money could have been put to better use, helping people or investing it in the childs future, but it their money and they are entitled to spend it however they seem fit.

  • wow that is totally insane, but I guess if you have access to that sort of money/wealth then it’s yours to do as you like.

I would love to read an article in say 10 years time where the little birthday girl here is interviewed and asked if she remembers her first birthday! I’m sure alot of it she won’t.

  • It sounds ridiculous but if they are that rich, it’s nothing for them

  • I could never justify spending that amount of money on a birthday party (not that I would ever have that amount of money to spend anyway!). Yes, they have the money, but surely, it could be better spent!?

  • Oh my. You can see that we come from completely different worlds. Even if I had all that money, I would never throw it away like that.

  • I couldn’t imagine having that much to spend on a party. If you can then why not I guess.

  • That’d pay off my mortgage! Must be nice to be rich.

  • Inn my opinion that’s over the top and such a waste on so many levels. But each to their own.

  • Sounds way too extravagant to me but if that’s your thing and you’re using your own money that’s your choice.
