Hello!

Superstar Aussie soccer player Mary Fowler has been honoured with her very own Barbie doll, complete with bubble braid and gloves.

The 21-year-old is among nine trailblazing women athletes from around the world who have been recognised as role models. They include tennis player Venus Williams, gymnast Alexa Moreno and paratriathlon athlete Susana Rodriguez.

Mattel says by recognising athletes who have broken barriers for women in sports, it hopes to amplify the voices of women in sport.

Mary said she was ‘super grateful’ for the opportunity to capture and share a version of herself when she feels her strongest and most confident.

“To finally see and hold my Barbie with its bubble braid, gloves, and boots, in a look that many young girls recreate is so special.”

Mary Fowler has become a key player for the Matildas and Manchester City football teams, with her signature bubble braid and gloves. She was selected for the FIFA World Cup in 2019 and became the team’s youngest player at 16 years old. Since then, she has been to two FIFA World Cups and the 2020 Olympic Games.

She shared the news on her Instagram account, and was flooded by supporters keen to get their hands on one of the dolls for their children.

Unfortunately, Mattel has confirmed the dolls aren’t available for purchase, because they’re one-of-a-kind dolls made to honour the athletes.

  • I wonder why they don’t make them available for purchase. It seems a bit of a wasted opportunity to not promote the wonderful women that they are honouring.
