A fun experiment to either watch and time how long it takes to melt under different circumstances.

Alternatively dig away with spoons and you can squeeze and splash warm water onto the ice to speed up the process.

Material

  • Bowl Small enough for the freezer
  • Small animals Think plastic knick knacks from KMart
  • Tray Something to rest the outcome on
  • Spoons Something to dig with

Method

  1. Fill a bowl with water and add small little toys (think animals or dinosaurs)
  2. Freeze
  3. Flip ice out onto tray

Notes

Keep the small animals and re-do when required. We took one frozen ice age into OOSH today.

  • Great project for the youngish ones. Can see them playing this for a while and then coming back a few hours later for the final resurrection of their toys.

  • I loved doing this, and it can be remade so easily for another day. We did one for the seasons so autumn had fall leaves and winter one will get snowflakes

  • I used to love making these with my preschool group. Each child chose what to put into their bowl of water and once the ice creations had formed they would then check on them throughout the day.

  • Could be good, depending on the age of your kids. I think the younger ones would quickly lose interest
