If you want to make whipping, chopping and mixing an absolute cinch when it comes to cooking, a stick blender is going to be your best friend in the kitchen.

A stick blender is a hand-held, mini version of a food processor with a detachable shaft that’s able to blend and puree with ease. They’re also called immersion and hand blenders, and they take up a fraction of the room that a bulky traditional blender does. Think baby food in minutes (without needing a baby food maker), smoothies in seconds and cocktails quicker than you can say ‘cheers!’

If you’re hunting for the best hand-held blender in Australia, you’ll find it on our list. So get comfy and start thinking of how much time you’ll save having the right appliance at your fingertips.

Best tips for buying a stick blender in Australia

We know, there are a lot of stick blenders in Australia, but if you’re not sure where to start, think about what works best for your family: the types of meals you cook and what functions you really need. Take a look at these top tips to help your decision-making:

Think functionality: Most stick blenders come with at least one attachment, others come with a whole range. If easier food preparation is essential, for example chopping herbs, vegetables and fruit, make sure the unit has that function and appropriate attachment.

If you’re more of a baker, you’ll probably want a stick blender with a whisk attachment. And if you really need to make more room in your cupboard, look for one that does the job of a few other appliances, like blending, chopping, whisking and whipping.

How much power do you need? Not all stick blenders are created equal. Some have a higher wattage, which helps them power through tougher ingredients.

Always consider safety. If you want to make sure you’re protected while using a stick blender, look for a good blade guard and handle grip to keep it firmly in your grasp.

  • Russell Hobbs one lacked power from the start and failed within a few months (used once a week for soup or smoothie). Best ever was a Kmart Ammo one a neighbour gave me when she moved. No attachments, but it was powerful and blended beautifully. Interesting that the wattage in the article is not representative of my experience with the Russell Hobbs and the Aldi one given to me as a present was dead on first use and designed to be unrepairable.

  • I’ve had the Kenwood and Russell Hobbs ones. I love the Kenwood one, it was so much more powerful and better quality. They are not all the same! The difference is not only in the extra attachments. My Russell Hobbs one is loose and water gets in now. I gave both a massive workout before they failed on me and both lasted me years.

  • I’ve had a Breville for many years. Only cost $15 and still going. I have a Bamix too but don’t use it too much.

  • I did just buy from one Coles. I don’t use it often, but mine of 20 years had just died. However, I’ve now seen these bundles everywhere and I’m so sorry I didn’t see these first as there’s other appliances within these bundles that I would have preferred.

  • The stick blender is certainly used a lot in our house. I have just a simple one and to be honest wouldn’t like to have one that comes with all kind of bits and pieces which just fill up the cupboard.
I think I bought mine at Spotlight.

  • I just have a plain stick mixer which does what I need and it’s very handy for me and I wouldn’t use all of the attachments.

  • I have both a blender and a stick blender and I definitely use the regular blender more than the stick blender. I tend to use the stick blender for baking and the regular for smoothies. We purchased the stick blender from Aldi. It comes with a few attachments and does the trick. It was a good price point for the amount that I use it.

  • I’ve never used a stick blender. Maybe I should.

  • I just have one from woolies but used it less than a handful of times as my mum gifted us a thermomix so used that to make baby food as there is a bunch of recipes on Cookidoo for bubs and kids of all ages.

    Reply

  • I just don’t use a blender enough to pay very much for one.
