Father collapses on road after hearing his teenage son and two younger daughters were killed in a fiery crash with a petrol tanker.
The horrifying accident occurred on the Newell Hwy at Boggabilla, in New South Wales’s far north on Monday.
Jack Pink, 19, was driving a truck full of furniture and his two younger sisters Marina — who would have turned 18 tomorrow, and Destiny, 15, were following in a car when the collision occurred just after 6am, reports news.com.au.
The vehicles burst into flames on impact and the cabin was ripped off the fuel carrier, Boggabilla Rural Fire Brigade member Garry Roberts said.
In a heartbreaking twist to the tragedy, the father of the three teenagers, Glenn, was travelling ahead of them, heard about the accident over a two-way radio and turned back to discover the gut-wrenching scene.
Emergency crews found him collapsed on the road.
“We saw a man laying in the middle of the road when he arrived but we came straight to the burning vehicles,” Mr Roberts said.
“We learnt later it was the father of the people in the cars.”
The girls had been towing what authorities believe was a portable coffee cart attached to their car.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the Pink family.
Marina, one of seven children to parents Jaze and Glenn, was just a day short of her 18th birthday.
“All gone at the same time … to lose one would be crazy. They lost three in on split second it’s just out of this world,” family wrote on a fundraising page.
“Jaze and Glen are good people with an amazing family. Burdened with life troubles. Life is not easy. What they do is everything for the kids.
“They are great people and their sacrificial love for their kids knows no bounds.”
As you can imagine this is an incredibly difficult time for their parents Jaze & Glenn and siblings Coral, Jeanna, George & Patrick. The page has raised almost $75,000.
