A father was arrested for confiscating his daughter’s phone.

Ronald Jackson from the US, was handcuffed and thrown in jail in 2012 after he took his 12-year-old daughter’s phone away because she sent a rude message about another woman.

The arrest was made about 2am after Jackson’s ex-wife, whose partner was a Grand Prairie police officer, found out.

“I was being a parent. You know, a child does something wrong, you teach them what’s right,” Jackson said.

“I didn’t want the police department telling me how to parent my child. It made no sense to me for them to show up and make a big deal out of something that was a small thing.

“I couldn’t believe they would go to this extent for a cell phone.”

On Tuesday, Dallas County Courthouse Judge Lisa Green ruled Jackson was not guilty due to a lack of evidence.

Seriously? Sounds like a bit of pay back maybe? I think he was a great parent and did exactly what was needed to be done.

  • Sounds like the ex got a little nasty there. Confiscating a phone because she was using it to be rude sounds reasonable to me!

  • yeah so ridic! obviously this mother is very controlling herself. She didn’t try to rectify the child’s behaviour and THAT is wrong.

  • Absolutely ridiculous. Sounds as if the mother as issues. She’ll rue the day if she doesn’t allow her daughter to be disciplined. The dad was only being a good parent.

  • I think he did the right thing! That’s the problem these days, kids are getting away with way too much and they think they’re entitled to do whatever they like.

  • I really hope the Dad can now take some action against the arresting police officer – at the very least having this ridiculous arrest noted as a personal vendetta rather than an official police matter.

  • You’re kidding, right? At least the judge saw sense here. You’ve got to teach children right from wrong.

  • Omg how stupid. He was only trying to be a good parent

  • Ridiculous. He was only doing what a responsible parent would do. Thank goodness he was not found guilty of any charges.

  • So glad to read the nit guilty verdict – really stupid for this to even get to court! What a huge waste of public money and resources.

  • How bizarre. You wouldn’t think you could be arrested for appropriate, non-physical discipline of your child.

  • How ridiculous. He was trying to stop his daughter bullying someone

  • This is ridiculous. What the hell was he arrested for? What a waste of police resources… go catch some real criminals.

    • Surely – wasting police time is an offence by the other party?

  • Yep lock up a dad for teaching his daughter morals but let the ones who beat their kids stay home so they can keep doing it, the justice system is so screwed up its ridiculous

  • How ridiculous is this… poor father, I would do the same thing.

  • How ridiculous. More parents should discipline their children like this then they might start showing some respect.

  • It looks like the ex wife just wanted to get back to him this way. Unbelievable.

  • This sounds as though it was a personal vandetta, and certainly not a Police matter. I don’t know one reponsible parent who would have not done what they thought was right to teach any child – male or female – that such behaviour is not tolerated. How else was the Dad supposed to ensure it wouldn’t happen again? Some will do things again no matter how long and details the discussion is. The girl is old enough to know better. Seems there needs to be phones which can be locked in such a way that only parental approved numbers (including emergency ones) can be dialed and / or messaged. It doesn’t give me a very good impression of the girl’s mother or her partner especially as he is using taxpayers’ money for something that is a private family matter.

  • Seriously. What a waste and also abuse of police resources! Sounds like pay back to me. The police officer should be reprimanded for wasting police time and the court as well. He was being a good parent and did exactly what I would have done

  • That seems incredible to be arrested for being a parent!
